Block Island & Outer Banks Cod Capt Steven Jr reports a good start to the day, but a slow afternoon. We started off with a good pick, with a few nice flurries, but then the action slowed down by mid morning to a tough grind. We still managed a respectable catch early in the day with most guys averaging 4 to 5 fish and a couple of high hook guys with 7. We also had a couple of pollock and ling come up in the mix. The first place pool winner was Danny Tamberelli from East Norwich, NY with a 14.2 lb Cod. The second place pool winner was Pete Catalano from Greenlawn, NY with a 12.4 lb Cod.

Block Island and Outer Banks Cod Capt Stephen Denaro reports yet another tiresome day on the Viking Starship.  We were in hardcore search mode all day and left no area unchecked.  We wasted little to no time on unproductive bottom but were unable to find the anything to work with.  Unfortunately, we will be cancelled tomorrow, Sunday, February 26th, due to the weather.  We are looking to get back out on the next nice day, please check the website or call the office 631-668-5700 for schedule updates.

Block Island & Outer Banks Cod Capt Carl reports another tough day on the Viking Starship. In the morning we had a slow pick catching 6-8 cod per drift, half keepers and half shorts, and that slowed right down to 2 or 3 a drift and eventually we stopped catching all together. We tried numerous drops but only caught some bergalls and dogfish. A few guys had 2 or 3, most had 1, and some had none. The pool winners were Victor Goberdham from Queens with a 5 pounder and second was Mihran Akyemniciayaw from Farmingdale, NY with a slightly small one.

Block Island & Outer Banks Cod Capt Carl reports an extremely slow day on the Viking Starship. We started off the morning in the same zone and on the first drift we had some cod and a nice pollack coming over the rail. It looked like a promising start to the day, however the next drift saw fewer fish, and eventually zero fish. The reason was once again a big seal showed up in the zone and scattered them. From there we went into search mode only finding 2 more keepers for the day. It was very tough. Frank Deluca from Staten Island, NY took first place in the pool with a 6 lb cod fish and William Morris from Rockpoint, NY took second with a slightly smaller cod.

Wed Feb 22

Block Island & Outer Banks Cod Capt Carl reports much improved cod fishing from yesterday. The morning bite was best with some really good drifts, some okay drifts, and some slower drifts catching mixed sized cod with keepers and shorts. We worked the zone for a couple of hours and then the bite shut right down. We did quite a bit of searching around after that, not finding anything, until right at the end of the day when we had one quick flurry of a bunch of keepers and shorts, but that only lasted one drift. All in all it was a decent day for a big crowd and most guys had 3 or 4 cod to take home, and some people had more, and some people had less. The pool was a first place tie between Anthony Mainolfi from…

Block Island & Outer Banks Cod Capt Carl reports a struggle and a tough day cod fishing today. We started off in the morning catching just a few per drift, then a seal popped up and completely shut the bite down. We caught a few more after a move, then had a promising drift of 15-20 cod, but then that bite shut right down again. It made for a very long rest of the day making many moves, but not finding anything to work on. We appreciate everyone being so patient and apologize for the tough day. We will be back at it again tomorrow and hope to see some better results. Ron Pliszak from Patchogue, Ny took first place with a 11.3 lb cod and David Park took second with a 9.2 lb cod.

Mon Feb 20

Block Island & Outer Banks Cod Capt Steven Jr reports another good day today on the cod grounds! We had a good shot of fish early in the morning and then late morning we had another good shot. In between and the later half of the day was very picky with a couple of fish here and there. By the end of the day we had a bunch of guys with their limit of cod and everyone else had anywhere from 3 to 7 fish on average. The first place pool winner was Raymond Gilliam Jr from East Hampton, NY with a 23.6 lb cod and the second place winner was Michael Fronda from Brooklyn,NY with an 18.4 lb cod.

Block Island and Outer Banks Cod – Viking Star Capt Carl reports a great day on the water aboard the Viking Star with beautiful weather and good cod fishing! We picked away at quality cod all day with some drifts only seeing a handful or two and some drifts with 30-40! We did not have many shirts either…lots of gaffers and quite a few double headers! We picked away all day and it added up to a solid catch! Ernie Yarcis from shelter island, NY took first place with a 18.5 lb cod and David Jones from Brooklyn, NY took second place in the pool with a 16.5 lb cod. Block Island and Outer Banks Cod – Viking Starship Capt Steven Jr reports not the same insane action that we had yesterday but still a real good day of fishing. …

Block Island and Outer Banks Cod Capt Steven Jr reports a SLAMMER day on the Starship.  Easy limits all around with lots of quality fish in the teens.  Also, a nice mess of ling and some pollack were caught today.  There was good action a majority of the day with only a few slow periods. The mates were busy cutting fish from 10am to about an hour after we had arrived back at the dock.  The full coolers were well worth the long ride.  Today’s pool winner was Adam Olsen of West Islip, NY with a 24.8lb cod.  The second place pool winner was Kevin Maltezo of Staten Island, NY with a 22.2lb cod.
