Archive: 2021

Sat June 12 – 1/2 Day Fishing AM

Capt JR reports strong currents and wind made fishing this morning quite difficult on the Viking Star. We tried many areas but weren’t able to catch much until the end of the trip. When the current eased off we boated some nice Fluke and Porgies. There were many Sea Bass in the mix that unfortunately…

Fri June 11 – Montauk Lighthouse Jumbo Porgies

Capt Dave reports very good fishing on the Viking Starlite. The conditions were just right this morning at the lighthouse, so we stayed there until the tide started running fast. We headed down the beach for awhile until the tide slowed down, then we finished up at the lighthouse. The Porgies were all big today. There were also Bluefish, a keeper Fluke, a keeper Cod and Sea Bass that had to be thrown back. The pool winner was Desi Randolph from Philadelphia, PA with a 2 lb Porgy.

Fri June 11 – Capt Steven’s Captains Choice

Mon June 7 to Fri June 11 Capt Steven Sr. reports a good offshore trip on the Viking Starship. On the way out to the grounds we tried out Fluking at Martha’s Vineyard and it was very slow, so we continued on through the Cape Cod Canal to Stellwagen. At first light we tried for…

Tue June 8 – Montauk Spring Jumbo Porgies

Captain Dave reports that we fished locally today.  The Porgies caught were quality larger fish but we are still experiencing a slower pick of fish. Mixed in today we landed some keeper Bluefish as well as many many Sea Bass which of course had to be returned as the season is not open.  Today’s pool…

Sun June 6 – 1/2 Day Fishing PM

Capt JR reports a fairly good trip on the Viking Star this afternoon. Some anglers were able to catch a good amount of Porgies on jigs with some really nice Fluke in the mix. We explored a new area this afternoon and found a few real trophy Fluke. The pool winner was Lynn Huebner from…

Sun June 6 – Montauk Spring Jumbo Porgies

Capt. Dave reports that we had an excellent start to today’s trip with plenty of Porgies being landed. Then it changed and fishing really slowed down, the calm weather and heat seemed to stop the fish from biting and the remainder of the day saw a slow pick . We had a couple of Bluefish in the mix and most of the Porgies were smaller than we have been seeing. Dennis Edwards of Queens NY won today’s pool with a 3.2lb Porgy.

Sun June 6 – 1/2 Day Fishing AM

Capt JR reports good action this morning with Fluke and Porgies coming over the rail. There were also some real big gorilla Bluefish bending the rods as well. There was also 1 keeper Cod. The pool winner was 9 year old Richard Parisi from the Bronx, NY with a jumbo 7.5 lb Fluke.

Sat June 5 – 1/2 Day PM

Capt JR reports that action was a little slower this afternoon on the Viking Star, due to the swift drift. We did manage to catch some Fluke and Porgies though. Some keeper Fluke and Porgies with a few Sea Bass were the main catch this afternoon. Unfortunately the sea bass had to be released. The…

Sat June 5 – Montauk Spring Jumbo Porgies

Capt Dave reports a good day on the Viking Starlite. It was a slow pick most of the day with nice sized Porgies. We had to move around and make a bunch of drops. Everyone had their limit of quality Porgies. The pool winner was Carlos Alas from Roosevelt, NY with a 3 lb Porgy.

Sat June 5 – 1/2 Day AM

Capt JR reports a decent pick of fish this morning on the Viking Star. We caught some Fluke throughout the morning with some keepers mixed in. We also had a few Porgies in the mix. Every trip seems to be improving with more species beginning to bite everyday. There was a tie for the pool with 7.5 lb Bluefish between Michael Cavaliere from Mount Sinai, NY and Angelo Demetroulakos from Brooklyn, NY.
