Sat Aug 31- 1/2 Day Fishing PM
Capt Mike reports another good afternoon of fishing on the Viking Star. We started the afternoon off with a couple nice drifts with big Sea bass and Porgies. Things slowed mid trip as the tide slaked off but it did begin to pick up again towards the end as we finished off with some…
Sat Aug 31 – Full Day Block Island Fluke & Sea Bass
Captain JR reports a good day on the Viking Starlite. It would have been an awesome day, but the sea bass fishing was so good it hindered our fluke hunt. Excellent and nonstop sea bass fishing EVERYWHERE. The bait wasn’t on the hooks long enough to give the fluke a chance to bite. But couldn’t…
Sat Aug 31 – Montauk Lighthouse Jumbo Porgies & Knothead Sea Bass
Capt Dave reports an excellent day of fishing today on the Viking Starship. Conditions weren’t the best with the strong New Moon tide ripping, but fishing was just fine. We started our morning down the beach Porgy fishing and has some good action with mixed sized fish. As the tide started coming in heavy we ventured offshore and had a nice mix of medium- large Porgies and SeaBass. SeaBass was better than it’s been with more quality to the size. We did find some Trigger fish, about half a dozen keeper Fluke, and some Mackerell out in the deeper water. To finish off our trip we ended back at the lighthouse for about an hour and a half and got onto some larger sized Porgies. The first prize pool winner went to Santos Constanza from Hillsboro, Maryland with a 2.6…
Sat Aug 31- 1/2 Day Fishing AM
Capt Mike reports a very good morning of fishing on the Viking Star. Fishing started off hot from the get-go with a mixed bag of jumbo Porgies, Sea bass, and several keeper Fluke in the buckets. As the trip carried on we lost the tide and the short Sea bass took over catching plenty of…
FRI Aug 30- Whale Watching- Star
For the last trip of August, the whales (and waves) had us working a bit harder than usual, reminding us of the changing seasons and the fortunes previously bestowed upon us throughout this summer. We headed south towards the general area where the humpbacks have previously been encountered, but there were no whales to be found. We did enjoy views of Cory’s and Great shearwaters, and of Wilson storm petrels flying and hunting while we searched. Winds made spotting of blows difficult so we didn’t find the whales until we were much closer to them than usual (less than half a mile) but that was when we realized that not only did we find them, there were 8-10 to be found! These were all humpbacks, at first moving quickly in all directions around and beyond the vessel. Capt. JR expertly…
Fri Aug 30- 1/2 Day Fishing PM
Capt Mike reports more difficulty this afternoon on the Viking Starlite. The wind continued to be an issue although fishing was steady. Anglers still managed a good pick of fish and filled their buckets with a mixed bag of Sea bass, Porgies and some nice keeper Fluke. The first prize pool winner went Mel Sobel from Brooklyn, NY with a 3.8 lb SeaBass. The second prize pool winner went to James Watkins from Syosset, NY with a 3.2 lb SeaBass.
Fri Aug 30 – Montauk Lighthouse Jumbo Porgies & Knothead Sea Bass
Capt Dave reports more difficult fishing today on the Viking Starship. Windier conditions made for tougher fishing today along with a lot of little fish in the mix. We spent most the day in local areas and had fish on the smaller side at just about every drop. Everyone did manage to get some nice sized Porgies in the buckets after picking through. The SeaBass bite was ok today, pretty similar to the Porgy bite with smaller fish, having to pick through fish to find our limit. The first prize pool winner went to Zaira Garcia from Lakewood, NJ with a 2.8 lb Porgy.
Fri Aug 30- 1/2 Day Fishing AM
Capt Mike reports a more difficult morning on the Viking Star. Due to tough east wind this morning conditions weren’t great. However, we managed to find some spots that were fishable. We did have pretty steady action all morning with some mixed bag fishing! Jumbo Porgies, Fluke, and Sea bass filled everyones buckets as they…
Wed Aug 28- Whale Watching- Starship
Whales are still around, a bit spread out We heard of some humpback whales close to shore and decided to look for a bit before heading further out where we’ve been seeing them for weeks. Near shore we did find a group of about 30-40 Tamanend’s bottlenose dolphins. Offshore we headed into the waves…
Thurs Aug 29- 1/2 Day Fishing PM
Capt JR reports a much calmer afternoon of fishing onboard the Viking Star. The fishing was much the same though. Lots of life with Sea bass, Porgies, and Fluke. Everyone had a nice catch to go home with. The pool winner was Desmond Hui from Shirley, NY with a 3/5 lb Sea Bass.
Thurs Aug 29 – Montauk Lighthouse Jumbo Porgies & Knothead Sea Bass
Capt Dave reports a good day on the Viking Starship. We had tough conditions to start the trip so we tried out a calm area. There were mostly small fish there. Fishing improved when we found a new spot to anchor up. We caught very good and had nice size Porgies. When conditions became right at the lighthouse we tried it out and had good luck there as well. We headed south offshore a bit for the Sea Bass. There was a mix of Porgies and Sea bass with good size Porgies and a lot of smaller Sea Bass to pick through. A 6 1/2 lb Fluke was also landed. The pool winner was David R from Brooklyn, NY with a 2.6 lb Porgy.
Thurs Aug 29- 1/2 Day Fishing AM
Captain JR reports a breezy morning on the Viking Star. However, we braved the elements and found some comfortable areas to fish with lots of action. SeaBass, Porgies, and lots of Fluke action kept everyone busy. Everyone had a nice bag of meat to go home with. The pool winner was Vinny Levien from Valley Stream,NY…
