Sat Sept 14-Block Island Jumbo Porgies and Knothead Seabass
Capt. Dave reports a good day of fishing with tons of action. We started off drifting close to Block Island where we got one good drift, but then full moon tide started to pick up so we moved to a spot where we got lots of action, with plenty of medium Porgies and a few Seabass mixed in. The conditions got better so we decided to head over to where we first started, where we got excellent Porgies and Seabass all really nice in size. The first pool winner was Marcia James from Bronx NY, with a 2.2 lb Porgy. The second pool winner was Carmel Aromstrong from Teaneck NJ, with a 5.2 lb Codfish.

Fri Sept 13 – Montauk Jumbo Porgies & SeaBass
Capt Dave reports great fishing on the Viking Starship. It was breezy to start so we anchored up and had good size Porgies with some SeaBass mixed in. The tide started running hard so we tucked up close to Block Island and anchored again. Once you hit bottom you got ’em! There were medium to large Porgies, some SeaBass and Striped Bass. When the tide and wind eased we tried a couple of drifts and it was very good! The pool winner was Dimas Soto from Central Islip, NY with a 2.6 lb Porgy.
Fri Sept 13 – 1/2 Day Fishing AM
Capt Dave G reports a good morning of fishing aboard the Viking Star in breezy conditions. The northeast wind made for difficult drifting, but we managed to put together a nice catch of sea bass and porgies. The pool winner was Dominick Totin from the Bronx with a 4 lb SeaBass.
Fri Sept 13 – 2 Night Tuna – Viking Star
Tue Sept 10 to Thurs Sept 12 Capt Jerry reports a “WAHOOPALOOZA” on our last offshore adventure on the Viking Star! We have never seen such a consistent Wahoo bite up here in the Northeast canyons like this before, where we landed 10 Wahoo for the boat, and lost a few more because of the sharp teeth biting through the leaders. All were taken on the troll, with the exception of Mr. Kobi landing one on the jig! It was pretty awesome to see this up in our area. We also landed a 200 lb Mako shark, a bunch of Mahi-Mahi, but only 1 Tuna for the trip. We marked tunas and had some bites and run-offs, but only landed the 1 nice Yellowfin. We expect them to really turn on after this upcoming moon. We also lost a swordfish….
Thurs Sept 12 – Montauk Jumbo Porgies & Knothead SeaBass
Capt Dave reports a good day despite the windy conditions. We anchored out of the wind on the south corner of Block Island. It was a steady pick of medium size Porgies with SeaBass in the mix. We also had some Trigger fish and Striped Bass. The pool winner was Molais Day from the Bronx with a 2.15 Scup.
Thurs Sept 12 – Inshore Charter – Viking Fivestar
Capt Derek reports a good morning on the Viking Fivestar. The trip started off good with nice big SeaBass with some jumbo Scup mixed in. We had to make a move when the tide changed and the conditions became difficult with wind against tide. We managed to get quite a few more keeper SeaBass.
Wed Sept 11 – Montauk Jumbo Porgies & Knothead Seabass
Capt Dave reports good fishing on the Viking Starship. We first headed out to the SeaBass grounds and we did one deep drop with solid SeaBass. They were mostly smaller fish with some keepers and one lonely Porgy. We then went close to Block Island and got in two drifts before it got windy and had to anchor. It was then a steady Porgy and SeaBass bite with nice size fish that made the day. There was a tie for the pool between Mike Kwok from Jersey City, NJ and Milton Nelson from Deer Park, Long Island with 2.15 lb Porgies.
Tue Sept 10 – Montauk Jumbo Porgies & Knothead SeaBass
Capt Dave reports a good day on the Viking Starship. We started off to the east at our SeaBass spot and it was much better than yesterday. We found it pretty decent in the deep water with a good mix of Porgies and SeaBass. You had to pick through the small SeaBass, but everyone managed a few there. We then went off and tried closer to Block Island where it was Red Hot! We had Big Porgies and mixed size SeaBass. The pool winner was Jeff Greenbaum from Yonkers with a 2.7 lb Scup. The daily Block Island Fall Jumbo Porgy & Knothead SeaBass will begin on Saturday September 14th. The trip departs at 5am and returns at 3pm and the fare is $110.
