Tue Sept 3 – 1/2 Day Fishing AM
Capt Dave G reports a good morning of fishing aboard the Viking Stariper. We had a beautiful morning and the fish were biting. We loaded up on jumbo Porgies and also had some Sea Bass and one nice keeper fluke. The pool winner was Rick Rimmer from Bohemia, NY with a 6 lb Fluke.
Sun Sept 1 -Striped Bass Fishing
Captain Jerry reports from the Viking Star that conditions are improving, but results are still disappointing. An angler was mightily disappointed to bring in a nice fat Striped Bass that was one inch too short. A few of the local charter captains have seen limited action and have landed a few this last week. We’re looking forward to some better fishing followed by better reports! September and October are usually banner months for Striped Bass. We had a tie in the pool , two Bluefish that appeared to be 9 pound twins. Congratulations to Tzvi Bar David of the Bronx NY and Noah Daigle of Warwick NY. We’ll continue the hunt Friday September 6th and Saturday September 7th 6PM to Midnight.
Mon Sept 2 -1/2 Day Fishing PM
Capt Dave G reports a good afternoon of fishing aboard the Viking Star in difficult drifting conditions. We did however manage to put together a good catch of nice size Sea Bass and Porgies. The pool winner was Michael Collins of Blue Point NY with a 3.9 pound Sea Bass.
Mon Sept 2 – Montauk Jumbo Lighthouse Porgies and Knothead Sea Bass
Captain Dave reports another fine start to our fishing day on the Viking Starship. Rods were bending with a variety of nice sized Porgies, sizes were mixed, but soon everyone had a load of Porgies to take home. We then headed East and brought up quality Sea Bass, up to 4 pounds, along with some mixed size Porgies and some nice sized Bluefish. The pool winner today was Tae Hoon Kim of New York City NY with a 2 3/4 pound Scup.
Mon Sept 2 – 1/2 Day Fishing AM
Capt Dave G reports a slower morning of fishing than we have been seeing aboard the Viking Star. We ended up with a mixed bag of Sea Bass, Porgies and a few keeper Fluke. The pool winner was Alexander Geltser from Stamford CT with a 5.65. pound Fluke.

Sun Sept 1 – Whale Watching
Great trip today on the Viking Starship with Captain Dave in the wheelhouse. Just 15 minutes after passing the Montauk Lighthouse we spotted our first Humpback whale. After leaving the Humpback whale we saw 2 unidentified whales in the distance. Passengers were seeing blow in every direction. We came across 2 Finback whales. One approached the boat and rolled and exposed their pale underside. Quite the show from the “greyhound of the ocean”. Approximately 12 Bottlenose Dolphins joined the two Finback whales for a brief time. After leaving the Finback whales we came across our second Humpback whale fluking several times. This whale also gave us some flipper slapping which everyone enjoyed. We continued our search for more marine life. We continued to see many blows off in the distance. Unfortunately we were again unable to identify these whales as…
Sun Sep 1- 1/2 Day PM
Capt. Jerry reports good fishing with lots of actions and lot of short Porgies and Seabass. We had good Fluke fishing as well. The first place pool winner was Chris Maniatis from Brooklyn NY, with a 7lb Fluke. The second pool winner was Mohammad Alekozay from Hicksville NY, with a 7 lb Fluke.
Sun Sept 1 -Montauk Jumbo Lighthouse Porgies and Knothead Sea Bass
Captain Dave M reports from the Viking Starship. Excellent conditions near the Montauk Lighthouse this morning. Mixed size fish but plenty of Porgies to fill the increased limit of forty-five per angler that started today. Then we headed East towards Block Island where we found plenty of action. Anglers did have to pick through some shorts but most found plenty of quality Sea Bass and Porgies to be had. First place in the pool went to Nelson Castillo of Central Islip NY with a 2.65 pound Scup. Second place went to Noel Miranda of Queens NY with a 4.8 pound Sea Bass.
Sun Sep 1- 1/2 Day AM
Capt Dave G reports a tough morning of fishing aboard the Viking Star. We had difficult drifting conditions during the trip with the wind against the tide. Still we managed to put together a decent catch of quality keeper fluke, along with some porgies and sea bass. The first pool winner was Paul Winum from…
Fri Aug 30-Whale Watching
Friday, August 30, 2019 A Beautiful Day with Whales all Around Today was a sunny , beautiful day as we set out again in search of whales. We only had to round Montauk Point and cruise along the south shore for 40 minutes before seeing our first whale blowing. This turned out to be a humpback whale, in very shallow water (50 feet) making shallow feeding dives. The water was literally teeming with giant schools of bait fish, menhaden, at the surface. The whale was only going down for a bit over 2 minutes as it’s food was right at the surface. Within a half hour we spotted several other blows and investigated. We watched these other 4 humpbacks feeding on and off for the rest of the afternoon. Looking towards the beach we saw a pair of whales…
Wed Aug 28-Whale Watching
Wednesday, August 28, 2019 Whales Close to Montauk What started out as a cloudy and someone rainy trip turned into a productive day of whale watching. After less than an hour we spotted some big splashes in the distance- there was a whale breaching and flipper slapping. Unfortunately by the time we got to the area, with the overcast background, we were unable to find the whale. We continued on our way and suddenly came upon 2 humpback whales and 18 bottlenose dolphin. There was a lot of surface bait fish and the whales were feeding. The dolphins came into our area in 2s and 3s until there was a big group. They swam around the feeding whales for some time and some passengers got some special pictures with a whale and dolphin in the same photo! They showed us…
