Viking Fleet Fishing Reports

Sun Sept 8 – 1/2 Day Fishing AM

Capt Dave G reports a slow morning of fishing aboard the Viking Star. We are expecting a better catch with diminishing winds and a favorable tide this afternoon. The pool winner was Betty Englis of New York City with a 3 pound Sea Bass.

Sat Aug 31 to Tue Sept 3 – 3 Day TNT – Viking Fivestar

Capt Steven Jr reports another excellent trip offshore over Labor Day weekend! We got our limit of Yellowfin from 30-80lbs, a decent mess of Golden and Grey Tilefish, with Pollock, Hake and Barrelfish mixed in, a handful of Mahi and a beauty Swordfish that weighed in at 220lbs! Day one we managed 7 nice Yellowfin on the troll and didn’t do any bottom fishing due to the unfavorable conditions. That night we picked a few Yellowfin early and then fought the Sword for a good while. As soon as he was on the deck the Yellowfin attacked! From 3am thru sun up we had non stop action on the bait and jigs with fish jumping all around the boat. Mid morning we got back on the troll and picked a couple small Yellows that we released. we then put in…

Mon Sept 2 to Thurs Sept 5 – 3 Day TNT LTD – Viking Star

Capt Jerry was happy to report a great first trip offshore for the Viking Star! We had solid bottom fishing during the day with plenty of Golden Tiles and other deep bottom dwellers. We also picked up a couple of Yellowfin on the troll. The night bite saw some more Yellowfin with some taken by jig and some with bait. All in all we had 20 nice Yellowfin on the boat, threw a couple of small ones back, and lost a few due to break offs. It was a great trip and there is tons of life out there! We can’t wait to get back out there this coming Tuesday, Sept 10 for a 2 night Tuna trip! There are a few spots open, so be sure to book and get in on the good Tuna bite while they are…

Thurs Sept 5 – Montauk Jumbo Lighthouse Porgies & Knothead SeaBass

Capt Dave reports excellent fishing on the Viking Starship. We anchored by the lighthouse in the windy conditions and the fishing was great. We moved on to the SeeBass grounds and anchored up again. At first it was a lot of Porgies and small SeaBass. It did pick up with some bigger SeaBass. Everyone had no problem bringing home their limits. The pool winner was Michael Laino with a 3 lb Porgy. The Porgy & SeaBass trip is CANCELLED for Friday and Saturday due to the tropical storm conditions expected.

Wed Sept 4 – Montauk Jumbo Lighthouse Porgies & Knothead SeaBass

Capt Dave reports excellent fishing on the Viking Starship. We started out at the lighthouse in shallow water and the fishing was great with big Porgies. We then headed out to the SeaBass grounds. It started off slow with small fish, but once we got the tide big SeaBass started biting. The pool winner was Anthony Drain with a 3.3 lb Porgy.

Tue Sept 3 – Montauk Jumbo Porgies & Knothead SeaBass

Capt Dave reports good fishing aboard the Viking Starship. It was slower than the last few days, but we had a steady pick of mostly big Porgies at the lighthouse early this morning. Then we anchored about half way to the SeaBass spot and the Porgy fishing was Red Hot! This lasted for about a half hour with some SeaBass mixed in. After that we headed to the SeaBass spot where it started out slow with mostly Porgies, but the SeaBass started to bite after awhile and we had them up to 5 lbs. There was no pool today.

Tue Sept 3 – 1/2 Day Fishing AM

Capt Dave G reports a good morning of fishing aboard the Viking Stariper. We had a beautiful morning and the fish were biting. We loaded up on jumbo Porgies and also had some Sea Bass and one nice keeper fluke. The pool winner was Rick Rimmer from Bohemia, NY with a 6 lb Fluke.

Sun Sept 1 -Striped Bass Fishing

Captain Jerry reports from the Viking Star that conditions are improving, but results are still disappointing.  An angler was mightily disappointed to bring in a nice fat Striped Bass that was one inch too short.  A few of the local charter captains have seen limited action and have landed a few this last week.  We’re looking forward to some better fishing followed by better reports!  September and  October are usually banner months for Striped Bass.  We had a tie in the pool , two Bluefish that appeared to be 9 pound twins.  Congratulations to Tzvi Bar David of the Bronx NY and Noah Daigle  of Warwick NY. We’ll continue the hunt Friday September 6th and Saturday September 7th 6PM to Midnight.

Mon Sept 2 -1/2 Day Fishing PM

Capt Dave G reports a good afternoon of fishing aboard the Viking Star in difficult drifting conditions. We did however manage to put together a good catch of nice size Sea Bass and Porgies. The pool winner was Michael Collins of Blue Point NY with a 3.9 pound Sea Bass.

Mon Sept 2 – Montauk Jumbo Lighthouse Porgies and Knothead Sea Bass

Captain Dave reports another fine start to our fishing day on the Viking Starship. Rods were bending with a variety of nice sized Porgies, sizes were mixed, but soon everyone had a load of Porgies to take home. We then headed East and brought up quality Sea Bass, up to 4 pounds, along with some mixed size Porgies and some nice sized Bluefish. The pool winner today was Tae Hoon Kim of New York City NY with a 2 3/4 pound Scup.
