Not many keeper Fluke but plenty of large and Jumbo Porgies and loads of large quality Sea Bass. Bent rods tired some of our customers out before we headed back to port. Mates were kept busy cleaning fish well after we came in. Another great day on the water. Pool winner was Louis DiMeglio of Ashburn VA with a 20 inch 5 pound Fluke.

Mon July 29- Montauk Jumbo Lighthouse Porgies and Knothead Sea Bass
Captain Dave reports another good day of fishing on the Viking Starship. It took a little while to find the Jumbo and large Porgies we’ve been catching recently. After loading up on Porgies we headed a little more offshore to see what else was biting. It seemed like we had to go through a million short Sea Bass before getting some quality keepers. Anglers brough home a few Fluke as well. The pool winner today was James Kim of Queens NY with a 3.4 pound Scup. Second place went to Wilkins Mendoza of New York City NY with a 4.2 pound Fluke.
Sun July 28 – 1/2 Day Fishing PM
Capt Carl reports an OK afternoon on the half day boat. The wind kicked up and with the tide it made for a very fast drift making catching fish a little tougher, but we still managed some keeper fluke, sea bass, and scup for everyone. The first place pool winner was Terrence Hines form Lindenhurst, NY with a 4 lb Fluke. The second place pool winner was Isabella Lloyd from Albrightvilla, PA with a 3.6 lb Fluke.
Sun July 28 – Montauk Jumbo Lighthouse Porgies and Knothead Sea Bass
Captain Dave on the Viking Starship reports another excellent day of fishing. We started our trip doing a few drifts near Montauk Lighthouse and soon had our limit of Porgies. We moved a little East and soon had lots of rod bending action bringing aboard lots of Sea Bass. Anglers had to pick through a lot of shorts, but the keepers were quality. Anglers also got some keeper Fluke. First place in the pool today went to Joseph Andres with a 3.4 pound Scup. Second place went to Victor Rijo with a 5 pound Sea Bass. The mates were kept busy cleaning fish well into the afternoon and smiling customers left with full coolers of fish.
Sun July 28 – Whale Watching
Bottlenose dolphins to start with humpback to end We had a long trip today with a sold out boat. We escaped the heat right away as we turned east at the jetty. We found 2 small groups of Bottlenose dolphins and a small ocean sunfish just west of the lighthouse. We searched nearshore and offshore, didn’t find much else until we began to head back toward Montauk. At 6:30 we saw something flash off in the distance and the blow of a humpback about 2 miles ahead of us. It was doing inverted lob-tailing, partial breaching, tails throws, etc. and as we got closer a small fishing boat ran super-fast right to the whale, stopped way too close. The whale reacted by diving and tail-throwing once – then took off to the southwest, with 5-6 minute down times and just…
