Viking Fleet Fishing Reports

Captain Joe reports from the the Viking Star that anglers continued catching good amounts of fish this afternoon. In fact the keepers were even larger than this mornings keepers. A nice variety of Fluke, Sea Bass and Porgy were all in the mix. this afternoon. Martin Wellin Dowd of Yorkville Manhatten was the pool winner this afternoon with an 8.1 pound Fluke. Honorable mention goes to local angler Uncle Bill Flagge who did not participate in the pool but brought in a 9.11 pound Fluke.  

Capt Dave reports excellent fishing on the Viking Starship. We started out drifting by the lighthouse where a new body of Sea Run Porgies moved in that were very nice quality jumbos. There were also SeaBass mixed in. The tide started running fast, so we moved around and had some steady spots and others were picky. There was also some Codfish. The first place pool winner was Shu Hui Cheng from Brooklyn, NY with a 4 1/2 lb Scup. The edible pool winner was Christian from Brooklyn, NY with a 5 lb SeaBass.

Capt Dave G reports a good morning of fishing aboard the Viking Star. The rods were bending all morning and we caught lots of fluke sea bass and porgies. There are still a lot of shorts in the mix. We ended up with a few nice keeper fluke some beautiful sea bass and everybody caught some fish. The 1st place Fluke pool winner was Caroilyn Sura from Wechesler New Jersey. The second place Fluke Pool winner was Caelin Smith from New York, New York.

We started out just where we left off, still finding cetaceans on every trip – ~70 short-beaked common dolphins.   What a gorgeous day to be on the water. Captain Joe reports from the Viking Star that today’s anglers were challenged by strong currents due to the new moon that lasted the entire trip.  Viking Fleet’s anglers did prevail and caught Fluke, Sea Bass and some Porgy. It was a close pool today and the winner Jim brought home the prize with a 6 pound fluke.

Capt Dave reports another good day on the Viking Starship. We started off with an anchor drop by the lighthouse where we spent 2 straight hours catching mixed size Porgies, along with a few SeaBass. We then went east to find the SeaBass and found Jumbos, but you had to work thru the little ones to get to them. We also had two Codfish. The pool winner was Jiang from Brooklyn. NY with a 4 lb Scup.

1/2 Day Fishing AM Capt Mike reports good action on the Viking Star. The morning started out slow, but picked up and there was a lot of action with everyone catching by the end. We had keeper Fluke, SeaBass and some Mackerel. The pool winner was Christian Tanno from Astoria, Queens with a 4.5 lb Fluke.  

Capt. Mike reports a good day of fishing with lots of good sized Fluke and keeper Seabass.  We started of catching mainly Seabass but as the trip progressed we caught a lot more Fluke. Capt Mike reports a lot of action on the Viking Star. We had a bunch of keeper Fluke and SeaBass along with a ton of thowbacks. The pool winner was Ilene from Manhattan with a 4 lb Fluke.    

Capt Dave reports a good day on the Viking Starship. The quality of fish improved today with bigger Porgies and Seabass up to 5 lbs. You had to work at it and most anglers had their limits. The pool winner was Elroy Tonge from Bronx, NY with a 3 2/3 lb Scup.

Capt Steven Jr reports a tough trip overall. On day one we started off at the point and caught a couple Striped Bass before heading to Block Island. The Fluke fishing around Block was very slow. We only had a couple of keepers, but did manage a nice handful of SeaBass. The second day we…

Capt Dave G reports a very good afternoon of fishing aboard the Viking Star. The rods started bending as soon as we got to the fishing grounds. There were Fluke, Sea Bass and Porgies all around the boat. We ended up with a pile of keeper Fluke and large Sea Bass. The pool winner was Aiden from West Palm, FL with a 4 lb Fluke.
