Viking Fleet Fishing Reports

Full Day Porgies

Monday Aug 19

Sunset Stripers Capt Ant reports two nights in a row of slow fishing on the Sunset Jigging trip.  The bite has been off at the light for the past few days so we gave up on the jigs and tried eeling to entice some fish to bite.  There is so much bait around the lighthouse zone right now that even eels made no difference.  Both Sunday and Monday trips delivered 2 bass each trip with a few blues in the mix.  Could be our August summer doldrums are here, or could be that they are waiting for the moon to start feeding again.  Either way it’s been tough fishing.  Pool winners were:Kathleen Brophy Middletown, NY with a 26lbs Second Place went to Nick Puglisi, Westchester, with a 15lbs Half Day Fluke PM Capt Carl reports a great afternoon on the…

Half Day Fluke PM Captain Joe reports a good day of fishing considering the breezy conditions. There was lots of actions with lots of shorts, some blues and a bunch of keeper fluke. Today’s pool winner was Carisa Verna of Farmingville with a 5lb fluke. Full Day Porgies Captain Dave reports an excellent day of porgy fishing today! we had some really nice sea bass today as well. A couple of blue fish and a striped bass were caught. The pool winner was Carlos Mcfarlane from Brooklyn, NY with a 3lb porgy. Half Day Fluke AM Captain Anthony reports that fishing was okay despite the conditions. the quick drift made it hard to set the hook. That being said we were still able to land a handful of fluke and a handful of sea bass. We also caught a…

Viking FiveStar Private Tuna Charter We just returned late yesterday from a quick overnight trip to the edge and returned with a pair of nice big eyes! We got under way Monday afternoon and arrived in the deep just as the sun was setting. we got the lures in for about an hour and grabbed a small yellow fin. We then set up on a drift for the night with low expectations being that there hasn’t been much of a night bite yet this year. We did have a decent sword fish on for a little while but ended up pulling the hook when it got close to the boat. prior to sunrise we got all the lures out and started a slow troll and with in 5 minutes we had a knock down. Shortly after that two rods doubled…

Half Day PM Captain Joe reports that fishing was good this afternoon on the fluke grounds we also had a nice mess of  scup and sea bass. The pool winner was Ben Greenspan from Glen Cove, NY with a 4.3 lb fluke. Flukasaurus Cod Wrecks Cultivator Shoals Capt Steven Sr reports they started out fishing on a deep water wreck on our way to fluke grounds and it was very good with market cod 5-7lb fish with the largest at 21.8lbs. After a few hours of cod fishing coolers had a good start to them. We went off to fluke fishing but fluke were hunkered down because of the rare species of dog fish. There were doggies everywhere. We would make a drift catching 5-6 fluke but the dogs would find us. There were dogs from 10 inches to 3…

Night Striped Bass Capt, Ant reports another tough night of weather put a damper on the bass assault although we were able to get a Moo Cow out of the slop.  We battled ENE winds 20-25kts all night against the screaming flood producing a very slow and abnormal drift for the summer time.  We had nothing on the jigs, most likely because we started with the slack.  We switched to eels at the start of the tide and had a couple and that was it until the tide started to ease.  We had one very good drift at the end of the night that produced the pool fish caught by Erica Fiohr from Lindenhurst, NY 36.2lbs Chris Luke added a 27.8lber to take second followed closely by Jonny “Jesus of the Elbow” Rewinski with a 25.7lber.  Definitely tough fishing conditions…
