Whale Watching We found them again! 4 Humpbacks! We didn’t have to go far to find our first whale- right at the edge of town, shortly after turning west at the Lighthouse. It was a large, active humpback. Tail throws, flipper slapping and rolling over tail throws! There was lots of action as it fed on some bunker. Bunker was everywhere and we found 3 other humpback whales over the course of the next few hours from Gurneys to miles off of Ditch Plains. Totals: -4 Humpbakcs -20 Wilson’s Storm Petrals -20 Cory’s Shearwaters

Montauk Jumbo Porgies and Knothead Sea Bass Captain Dave reports a good day of fishing today aboard the Viking Starship. We took a long trip first thing in the morning out to get some nice sea bass and we found a nice pile of knothead sea bass. There were also some smaller porgies mixed in. Then we came back inshore and had an excellent afternoon of catching mostly all jumbo porgies and a few sea bass mixed in. Today’s first place pool winner was a tie between two anglers- Troy Walker and Nicholas Protopsaltis, both of Brooklyn with 3lb porgies.

Night Striped Bass Capt Carl reports a decent night of fishing on the Viking Starship. We arrived on the grounds at the right time and picked up some real big Striped Bass for a couple of drifts, with the first fish boated over 35 lbs and caught by a 10 year old. As soon as the tide eased off just a little, the big ones shut down, so we moved to a different spot and picked away at some smaller keepers. The second half of the trip was through slack tide and then the outgoing tide and we didn’t have another bite. Jimmy Budrock from Yonkers, NY took the pool with an impressive 44 pound Striped Bass (it was 48 lbs as soon as he landed it, but the official dock weight was 44), and Nicole Cook from Islip, NY…
