Mon Aug 19 – Montauk Lighthouse Jumbo Porgies & Knothead Sea Bass

Capt Dave reports a pretty decent day of fishing on the Viking Starship. We ran offshore first thing this morning to get out of the dirty water that the tropical storm brought in and we had a slow and steady pick of both Porgies and SeaBass. They were not as big as they were yesterday…

Mon Aug 19 – 1/2 Day Fishing AM

Capt Carl reports an OK morning trip on the Viking Starlite. It started off a little slow with the left over ground swell from Hurricane Ernesto, but by the trips end, conditions improved as well as the fishing. Everyone went home with Sea Bass and Porgies! We did have some Flukes as well, but no…

Sun Aug 18 – Whale Watching- Starship

With only one month left in our season, we were eager to get out and find the whales we have had such success in finding on previous trips. We headed approximately twelve miles south where we came upon three humpback whales which at first appeared to be logging (resting) at the surface. In fact, they were traveling and coming up to breathe roughly every 30 seconds. We kept up with the whales, coming upon 6-8 additional individuals in an area that they were headed towards. Here the whales were actively diving, likely feeding on the prey that was detected throughout the water column. Two breaches close to the vessel delighted passengers and numerous close approaches by associated pairs, one mom and calf pair, and solo calves maintained the excitement. More blows in the distance brought the total number of humpbacks…

Sun Aug 18 – 1/2 Day Fishing PM

Capt Steven Sr. reports a much improved afternoon of fishing on the Viking Star. At the start of our trip we had a pretty good Fluke bite, from shorts to keepers and even some larger sized fish, we had to pick through the Sea Robin to get them, but they were definitely biting. As the…

Fri Aug 16 – Whale Watching- Star

The whales are still around!!   We headed out with a full boat of passengers and crew. The visibility was excellent once we were a bit offshore, although all was hazy due to the Canadian Wildfire smoke. We found our first whales off in the distance via looking for blows and seeing multiple breaches ahead…

Sun Aug 18 – Montauk Lighthouse Jumbo Porgies & Knothead Sea Bass

Capt Dave reports a very good day of fishing today on the Viking Starship. This morning started off not so good, as we started off around the lighthouse and coudlnt really grt on any fish, the ground swell seemed to be messing up the bite. We did work our way a good distance offshore to…

Sun Aug 18 – 1/2 Day Fishing AM

Capt Mike reports a pretty good day of fishing on the Viking Star. We started our first drift very good with a lot of Seabass and Porgy action early.  As the trip carried on the bite slowed down for a bit, however we saw a shift at the end of the trip seeing some keeper…

Sat Aug 17 – 1/2 Day Fishing PM

Captain Mike Ricker reports steady mixed-bag fishing for the afternoon. There was plenty of action for our fishermen, with great porgy numbers. The trip ended with some very nice-sized sea bass and flukes in the fishermen’s buckets. Our pool winner today was Mike Michine from New York, NY, with a 5.5-pound fluke. Our runner-up was…

Sat Aug 17 – Full Day Block Island Fluke & Sea Bass

Captain JR reports that today’s full day trip to Block Island brought us lots of east wind and quite the large ground swell. However, the sea bass bite was unaffected and we found the same excellent fishing that we have been used to. Anglers easily captured a beautiful limit of knot heads. We spent the…

Sat Aug 17 – Montauk Lighthouse Jumbo Porgies & Knothead Sea Bass

Capt Dave reports an okay day of fishing today on the Viking Starship. We had tougher conditions today between the ground swell and the full moon tide. We moved around between a lot of our usual spots and pretty much just had to pick through a lot of little fish, finding some keepers every few…
