Capt Dave reports a good trip on the Viking Starship. Porgy fishing was excellent by the lighthouse. We started out on the anchor and had mostly nice size fish. We also did some drifting. There were some Sea Bass, but they were on the smaller size. Sea Bass fishing was lively by Block Island. There…

Mon Aug 5 – Montauk Lighthouse Jumbo Porgies & Knothead Sea Bass
Capt Dave reports a good day of fishing today on the Viking Starship. First thing this morning, fishing was excellent with a great shot of Porgies for about 30-45 minutes and the tide switched and the bite dropped out. We started to work our way to the east to escape the tide and had ok action. We then got into our SeaBass grounds and picked through a bunch of small fish, we definitely had less keepers to throwbacks today, but managed a few nice ones. We later made our way back to finish off our trip drifting off the lighthouse for a little over an hour and had fantastic fishing with mostly medium to large fish, no real jumbo Porgies today. The first prize pool winner went to Mr. Lee from Manhattan, NY with a 2.2 lb Porgy. We will…
Mon Aug 5 – 1/2 Day Fishing AM
Capt Carl reports a fine morning of 1/2 Day Family Fun Fishing on the Viking Starlite this morning. The water was a bit brown and dirty where we started off, so we made a move and found some cleaner water and hungry fish! Black Sea Bass and Porgies made up the majority of the catch,…
Sun Aug 4– Whale Watching – Viking Starship
What a great day! We first headed out towards Montauk Shoals to search for a young whale that was seen earlier in the morning during a fishing trip. The juvenile humpback was spotted alongside a small group of Tamanend’s bottlenose dolphin. As we waited for the whale to surface following a shallow dive, we were treated to a massive and unexpected tail kick off our port side. We spent a little more time here watching dolphins surf in some of the larger waves beyond our vessel before continuing south in search of the adult humpbacks who have been spending time off Montauk this summer. As with many other trips this season, we found them and in great abundance. Eight initial humpbacks turned into twelve and then sixteen. Whales surrounded the vessel and many blows could be seen beyond. Not to…
Sun Aug 4 – Montauk Lighthouse Jumbo Porgies & Knothead Sea Bass
Capt Dave reports pretty good fishing today on the Viking Starship. Today’s conditions weren’t great with the strong tide and light wind, so we did spend most our morning drifting off the lighthouse picking through some smaller stuff. We eventually zeroed in on some larger fish about mid-way through the trip and had our large…

Sat Aug 3 – Montauk Lighthouse Jumbo Porgies & Knothead Sea Bass
Capt Dave reports a tough trip on the Viking Starship. The tide was running hard, so we had to travel around a lot. When we got to the Porgies they were biting good and the size was decent. It was a mix of smalls to jumbos and not many throwbacks. Sea Bass was definitely slow. They just didn’t bite well. We had some keepers, but most were shorts. First place pool winner was Gerson from Levitown, NY with a 3.1 lb Porgy. The edible pool winner was Samuel from Corey, NJ with a 3.8 lb Sea Bass. We are sailing tomorrow at 5AM.
