Archive: 2024

Sat Aug 3 – 1/2 Day AM

Capt Mike reports another excellent mixed bag morning bite on the Viking Star. We had buckets full of jumbo Porgies with SeaBass mixed in. We had a couple nice keeper Fluke as well. Overall, this afternoon had nice steady action all trip. The first prize pool winner went Pete Ball from Putnam Valley, NY with…

Fri Aug 02 – Whale Watching – Viking Star

Yesterday’s heat wave and the gridlock in the Hamptons may have put a damper on things on land, but our time at sea was INCREDIBLE! While we expected to transit an hour or so to reach the whales, our trip was ‘interrupted’ by sightings of Tamanend’s bottlenose dolphins and close-up views of a scalloped hammerhead shark! Things only got better from there as we reached the whales sooner than expected and were treated to 12-18 humpbacks diving around the vessel, including a young calf which continuously swam around the vessel intentionally popping up left and right of the bow to check us out. Then things really got interesting; a ‘picket-fence’ of blows appeared ahead of us belonging to at least two dozen whales, including two fin whales and 2-3 minke whales. As we traveled the short distance to check things…

Fri Aug 2 – 1/2 Day PM

Capt Mike reports a pretty good afternoon of fishing on the Viking Starlite. Trip started what was to be a steady mixed bag bite. Some nice sea bass and jumbo porgies I the buckets. We had alot of short Fluke, but manage several August keepers to add! The first prize pool winner went to Rachel Carpitlla from West Babylon with a 3.5 lb Fluke.

Fri Aug 2 – Montauk Lighthouse Jumbo Porgies & Knothead Sea Bass

Capt Dave reports great fishing on the Viking Starship. There was a lot of tide by the lighthouse due to the new moon. We drifted and it was very good even in the strong tide. That is when we had the bigger Porgies. When it eased off the fish we had were smaller, so we headed off to the Sea Bass grounds. There were a lot of little ones, but some quality came up giving anglers their limit. We saw nicer fish then we have been seeing. Some Fluke were caught today along with Mackerel and the first showing of Bluefish. Tyrone Balgon from NJ won the first place pool with a 2.2 lb Porgy. The edible pool winner was Orlando Saravia from Scranton, PA with a 4.2 lb Sea Bass.

Fri Aug 2 – 1/2 Day Charter

Capt Mike reports a good trip for the 1/2 Day Charter on the Viking Starlite. Action started on the first drift and continued until the last drift. There were plentiful buckets of Porgies and the kids landed keeper Fluke as well. We are also seeing some Trigger fish showing up.

Thur Aug 1 – 1/2 Day Fishing PM

Capt JR reports a good pick of Porgies and SeaBass all afternoon on the Viking Star. We had a very light crowd and easily put a good looking catch together. A couple of guys also found a keeper fluke to top off their catch. There was no pool on the boat this afternoon.

Thurs Aug 1 – Montauk Lighthouse Jumbo Porgies & Knothead Sea Bass

Capt Dave reports pretty good fishing today on the Viking Starship. Unfortunately the Porgies were on the smaller side today compared to the past couple trips, but we did have a nice bite. We worked through a few of our local spots and definitely had our fish, just more mediums than the large and jumbos,…

Thur Aug 1 – 1/2 Day Fishing AM

Capt JR reports a good morning of fishing onboard the Viking Star. Sea bass, porgies, and fluke kept anglers busy all trip as we found lots of action everywhere we went. Not as many fluke as we have been seeing this morning. But we still smoked out a couple keepers. The first prize pool winner…

Wed July 31 – Montauk Lighthouse Jumbo Porgies & Knothead Sea Bass

Capt Dave reports a good day of fishing on the Viking Starship. Porgy fishing was excellent by the lighthouse. We anchored up on a nicer spot today and found better size fish. We changed up the Sea Bass drop today and drifted in deeper water. There weren’t tons of bites, but we did have very…

Wed July 31 – 1/2 Day Fishing AM

Capt Mike reports a good trip on the Viking Star. The conditions limited where we could fish this morning, but we had pretty good action on a couple drifts with Porgies and some nice keeper Sea Bass. It was a fun trip nevertheless.
