Sat July 12 – Montauk Lighthouse Jumbo Porgies & Knothead Sea Bass

Capt Dave reports a good day on the Viking Starship. Porgy fishing is fantastic. They are mixed size with plenty of bites. Sea Bass continue to be challenging with mostly small fish. We also had a few Bluefish. The pool winner was Wendy A. from Queens, NY with a 3.3 lb Porgy.

Sat July 12 – 1/2 Day Fishing AM

Capt Mike reports steady fishing from the first horn on the Viking Star! It was a good bite and everyone caught multiple fish. The pool winner was Jack Lisi from Montclair, NJ with a 3 lb Sea Bass.

Sat July 12 – Block Island Fluke & Sea Bass

Capt JR reports an exponential improvement in today’s Block Island catching. Big knot head Sea Bass and BEAUTIFUL keeper Fluke have kept us very busy all morning. We have lots of room on tomorrow’s full day Block Island trip!!!

Thurs July 10 – Montauk Lighthouse Jumbo Porgies and Knothead Seabass

Capt. Dave reports an excellent day of fishing today. We ended up going down the beach to get away from the tide where we had fantastic Porgy fishing. After much success we decided to go offshore and try our luck at some Seabass and we got a few keepers. We finished off drifting over by the Lighthouse where we caught some MASSIVE Porgies. The pool winner today was Steven Shwartz from NY, with a 3 lb Porgy.

Thurs July 10 – 1/2 Day Fishing AM

Captain JR reports a delightful morning onboard the Viking Star. We found lots of action all morning with Fluke, Seabass, and giant Porgies keeping everyone busy at the rail. It was a good mix of species with some very nice keeper Fluke rounding out the catch.

Wed July 9 – Whale Watching

On yesterday’s trip, we followed-up on some reports of whale and dolphin activity to our south. We headed out under beautiful weather conditions, exchanging cool ocean breezes for the steamy conditions left behind on land. About two miles out, we had our first cetacean encounter with a group of Tamanend’s bottlenose dolphin. What was first believed to be a small group of a dozen or so ended up being 30-40 individuals swimming around the vessel. Everyone got great looks at the pod(s) before steaming our way south. Eventually we got into an area that was ripe with bird activity; Cory’s and great shearwaters, along with common tern were numerous, and bait was detected from 40-50 ft to the surface. This was a good area for whales, but none were yet found. So we traveled east until a large splash was…
