Sat Oct 5 – Block Island Fall Jumbo Porgies & Knothead Sea Bass

Capt Dave reports a pretty good day of fishing today on the Viking Star. Conditions were perfect today as we fished close to the island. Our first drift was our longest drift, as it lasted for close to 2 and a half hours with a nice steady mixed bag pick. We saw fish of all sizes on this drift with some nice medium to large sized Porgies, no jumbos but definitely some larger ones in the mix. We did have some good size SeaBass today, but still had to pick threw a lot of little SeaBass, as well as the Mackerell. We did make a couple moves to try to get on some larger fish, but had pretty much the same pick at each drop. The first prize pool winner went to Javier Molina from New York, NY with a…

Sat Oct 5 – 1/2 Day Fishing AM

Captain JR reports a good morning onboard the Viking Starlite. We had good action with mostly sea bass coming up. We also had a good showing of sea bass and fluke to keep the rods bent. The first prize pool winner went to Adam Cohen from Somers, NY with a 4 lb SeaBass. The second…

Fri Oct 4 – Block Island Fall Jumbo Porgies & Knothead Sea Bass

Capt Dave reports a decent day on the Viking Star. We started out tight to the island in shallow water and the fishing was good. When the tide got going fishing got tough so we moved to 70 feet of water and found a lot of little Sea Bass, but everyone managed a few keepers….

Thurs Oct 3– Block Island Fall Jumbo Porgies & Knothead Sea Bass

Capt Dave reports a tougher day of fishing today on the Viking Star. Despite being one of the best weather days we’ve had in weeks, the fish were just not biting today. With a large crowd today we moved all around trying a few different spots, with pretty much the same results at each drop….

Wed Oct 2 – Block Island Fall Jumbo Porgies & Knothead Sea Bass

Capt Dave reports steady fishing all day on the Viking Star. We fished a couple of spots in the deeper water and found LARGE & JUMBO Porgies. Everyone also had a handful of Sea Bass. There were also 3 Cod and a bunch of Mackerel. The pool winner was Henry Cheng from Hong Kong with…

Tue Oct 1 – Block Island Fall Jumbo Porgies & Knothead Sea Bass

Capt Dave reports a good trip on the Viking Star. We fished south of Block Island and had fish everywhere we tried. There was a lot of moving around because we would have them really good, then the smaller ones would start to show up. Everywhere we tried was like this. There was plenty of fish to go around with mixed size Porgies, plenty of Sea Bass, a bunch of Mackerel mixed in and a few Cod. The pool winner was Jose Avelino from Astoria, Queens with a 2 lb Porgy. We will be sailing tomorrow at 5am on the Viking Star. The office opens at 4am for check in and ticket sales.

Sun Sept 29 – Whale Watching

Another trip with whales (our 123rd consecutive trip since July 14, 20219)! Well summer is over and the whales are still around (as were the gray seals in Montauk  Harbor). Within about 15 minutes of passing Montauk Point, we found our 1st juvenile humpback whale, the first of ultimately 5. On a blustery, sometimes chilly…

Mon Sep 30 – Block Island Fall Jumbo Porgies & Knothead Sea Bass

Capt Dave reports a good day of fishing today on the Viking Star. We made our first drop out in the really deep water and had some really great action with some big sized Porgies and SeaBass, some of the bigger fish we’ve seen a while. We worked this drop until the dogs moved in…

Sun Sep 29 – Block Island Fall Jumbo Porgies & Knothead Sea Bass

Capt Dave reports a pretty good day of fishing today on the Viking Starship. For the most part today was an all around slow and steady pick, it was never red- hot at any point, but we had action all day. From the start of the day we had some nice SeaBass closer in to…
