Wed Dec 4 – Block Island Jumbo Porgies & Knothead SeaBass

Capt Carl reports a pretty good day on the Viking Starship. We had plenty of medium, large, and Jumbo porgies! We also saw around 18 keeper Cod, a Pollock, Whiting, Mackerel, a few Ling, and all sorts of other life. We did catch some Sea Bass as well…not as good as it has been, but still some for everyone. The pool was a Porgy and it was won by George Caravassilis with a 2.5 pounder. We are sailing tomorrow again at 5am!

Sun Dec 1 – Block Island Cod and Sea Bass – Viking Fivestar

Capt Steven Jr reports that we had a picky but very productive day on the Viking Fivestar with a nice improvement in the Cod and some XL Blackfish as an added bonus. We never had crazy action but everyone ended up with their limit of Sea Bass, a couple Cod each and a few guys managed a limit of Blackfish. The Cod were healthy green fish and a few bigger ones were loaded up with roe. Hoping this is the beginning of a new body of fish moving in the the area. We also had some Scup, Mackerel and Pollock in the mix. We are looking forward to getting back out and doing some searching around for the Cod especially since the dogfish have continued to thin out in deeper water. Mark Fisher had his Tog limit with the biggest…

Sun Dec 1 – Block Island Jumbo Porgies and Knothead Sea Bass

Capt Dave reports a good day of fishing with a light crowd today on the Viking Starship. When we got to Block Island we had a lot of smaller fish than we have had the last few weeks so we moved a little farther East. There we found decent size Porgies, good sized Sea Bass and some nice Cod. The rain held off until this afternoon on the way back to Montauk which was nice. Weather predicted for tomorrow has cancelled our trip. Pool winner today was Roy Brown of the Bronx with a 2.2 pound Porgy. Jim Hong Dong of the Queens NY was high hook in the Cod category with 4 nice Cod the largest a little over 14 pounds.

Sat Nov 30 – Cod & SeaBass – Viking Star

Capt Dave G reported a good day of fishing aboard the Viking Star. We started out working the Cod grounds. We had a steady pick for the first part of the morning with mostly market size Cod. Then we moved to deeper water and caught nice Sea Bass, although they were not the jumbos that were here before the storm. We also ended up with a load of nice size Porgies. Then we finished up with some more Cod which were mostly bigger than in the morning. All in all it was a good trip. The first place Cod pool winner was Menios from Astoria, NY with a 15.5 lb Cod. The SeaBass pool winner was Chris Zilno from Morrisville, Pa with a 4.25 pounder. This trip is cancelled for tomorrow. We will be sailing on the 5am – Porgy…

Sat Nov 30 – Block Island Jumbo Porgies & Knothead SeaBass

Capt Dave reports decent fishing on the Viking Starship. We fished offshore of Block Island and had more Porgies in the mix than SeaBass. We had our limit of SeaBass, but we had to mill thru the Porgies to get to the bigger SeaBass. We also had some Bluefish and about 8 Cod. The first place pool winner was Louie Mynaya with a 2.9 lb Porgy. The edible pool winner was Will Vasquez with an 18 lb Cod. We will be sailing tomorrow Sunday, Dec 1st at 5am for the Porgy & SeaBass trip. We also have a few spots available on the Viking Fivestar trip at 5am for Cod & SeaBass. You can book online at vikingfleet.com. The 4am Cod & SeaBass trip on the Viking Star is cancelled.

Mon Nov 25 – Block Island Cod/SeaBass/Blackfish – Viking Fivestar

Capt Steven Jr reports an excellent day even with the rough conditions early in the morning. From there we went off SeaBassing and had steady action and managed limits for everyone before we called it a day.
