Fishing Reports

Fri Oct 3 – Block Island Jumbo Porgies & Knothead SeaBass

Capt Dave reports fantastic Sea Bass fishing on the Viking Starship. The inshore spot we had been hitting slowed down, so we went offshore for SeaBass and it was great. After we had what we needed, we searched for the Porgies. Once we found the spot it was solid medium sized Porgies. There were plenty of them along with SeaBass, Cod and Mackerel. We had some SeaBass up to 4 lbs and Cod that were not in the pool. The first place pool winner was Lloyd Patterson from Brooklyn, NY with a 3 lb Porgy. The edible pool winner was Elric Jarvis from Bronx, NY with a 3.3 lb SeaBass. The Porgy & SeaBass trips are sold out on Saturday and Sunday! Please be sure to book in advance!!

Thurs Oct 1 – Block Island Jumbo Porgies & Knothead SeaBass

Capt Dave reports a slower day on the Viking Starship. We had tough conditions with a raging full moon tide and left over dirty water from the blow. We moved around a lot and had a mix of Porgies and SeaBass. The pool winner was Larissa Cook from Brooklyn, NY with a 3 lb Porgy.

Tue Sept 29 – Block Island Jumbo Porgies & Knothead SeaBass

Capt Dave reports a slower day on the Viking Starship. Possibly the moon tide had the fish off the bite. We started out offshore and had some SeaBass, Porgies and Cod. It was okay, then we headed in close to Block Island where we have been fishing and had a slow steady pick of mostly Large Porgies, a few SeaBass and some Triggerfish. The first place pool winner was Louis Murray from Brooklyn, NY with a 2.7 lb Porgy. The edible pool winner was Yan Yee Chung from Queens, NY with a 4.2 lb SeaBass. Tomorrow’s trip is CANCELLED due to weather.

Mon Sept 28 – Block Island Fall Jumbo Porgies & Knothead SeaBass

Capt Dave reports a steady pick all day on the Viking Starship. We drifted inside by Block Island the whole trip and had a mix of Porgies and SeaBass. It was by no means a slammer day, but everyone was able to get what they needed. We also had Triggerfish and a 10 lb Striped Bass. The bigger fish caught today were not in the pool. The First Place winner was Jeff Lin from Queens with a 2.6 lb Porgy. The edible pool winner was Fong Chang from Queens with a 2.8 lb SeaBass.

Sun Sept 27- 1/2 Day Fishing PM

Capt JR reports from the Viking Star. A long slow roll and a slow bite made for a challenging afternoon. We did have some keeper Fluke this afternoon. Fluke season ends Wednesday Sept. 30th so the crew and captain were glad to have some come aboard this afternoon. Fluke, Sea Bass and a single Porgy. First place in this afternoon’s pool went to Fabian Sanchez of NYC with a 3.5 pound Fluke and Mary Weiss of Hartsdale NY Westchester County won 2nd place in the pool with a 3.3 pound Sea Bass. Mary won first place in the pool this morning and 2nd place in the pool this afternoon. Congratulations Mary!

Sun Sept 27 – Block Island Jumbo Porgies & Knothead Sea Bass

Capt Dave reports a good day on the Viking Starship. We started out today close up to to Block Island where the bite on the morning tide made for a slow start with smaller fish than we had been seeing. The later tide change brought much better fish and the bite was on. Not a slammer of a day, but good. Bigger fish and more fish. At least half a dozen Triggerfish brought over the rail and good size Porgy and Sea Bass to end the day. Emil Sullivan of Albany, NY won first place in the pool with a 3 pound Porgy. Joseph Andres of Bridgewater, NJ won the edible pool with a 4.2 pound Sea Bass.

Sun Sept 27- 1/2 Day Fishing AM

Capt JR reports from the Viking Star. Fishing was a little more challenging today than yesterday. We had a great group of anglers that had a lot of enthusiasm. They were getting to try out different techniques as demonstrated by our experienced crew. The bite on the morning tide was a little slow. No keeper Fluke this morning but some nice Knothead Sea Bass, Porgies and Mackerel. All the Viking Captains, Crew and Office Staff want to give a Emily B. a big send off on her last day working the 1/2 day Fishing Trips this season. She’s promised to come back next year. She’s a favorite of anglers and the entire Montauk Harbor Community. Mary Weiss of Hartsdale, NY won the pool this morning with a 3.2 pound Sea Bass  photos to follow ……………….
