Fishing Reports

Tue Sept 15 – Block Island Fall Jumbo Porgies & Knothead SeaBass

Capt Dave reports a pretty good day on the Viking Starship. It was not as good as yesterday with the ground swell on and the rough conditions. The Porgies and SeaBass were a bit smaller today and we had to contend with the Blue fish harassing us, but all in all we had a good catch. The pool winner who would like to remain anonymous caught a 22″ – 4 lb Porgy.

Mon Sept 14 – Block Island Fall Jumbo Porgies & Knothead SeaBass

Capt Dave reports fantastic fishing on the first day of the Block Island Fall Jumbo Porgies & Knothead SeaBass trip on the Viking Starship! We spent the day checking things out. Fishing was excellent from the beach to 90 ft out. There were more Porgies than anything else in close. Out in the deep we had big SeaBass, Porgies, Fluke, Bluefish and a few keeper Cod. They were good quality fat and healthy fish with nice color. The pool winner was John Banegas from Mastic Beach, NY with a 3.3 lb fish.

Sun Sept 13 – 1/2 Day Fishing PM

Capt JR reports a good afternoon on the Viking Star. We had a decent pick of Sea Bass and Porgies. Definitely an improvement over the last two days. We ended up with a few keeper Fluke too. First place in this afternoon’s pool went to Bruce Stafford of Sag Harbor, NY with a 6.5 Fluke. 1/2 Day Fishing with the Viking Fleet is now only available Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. Sun Sept 13 – Montauk Lighthouse Jumbo Porgies & Knothead Sea Bass

Capt Dave reports a “Bail Job” just off the beach this morning on the Viking Starship. Anglers were bringing medium to large Porgies over the rail 2 at a time. It wasn’t long before everyone had their limit. We headed South to find some quality Sea Bass, but the pickings were slim. We fished around and picked up some keeper Sea Bass and also some nice Triggerfish and Blowfish. First place in the pool today went to Santos Cruz of Roosevelt, NY with a 2 1/2 lb Porgy. Edible pool went to Ricardo Villalobo of Uniondale, NY with a 4 lb Triggerfish. Tomorrow the Viking Starship is headed to Block Island to begin our daily Block Island Fall Jumbo Porgies & Knothead Sea Bass trips.

Sun Sept. 13- 1/2 Day Fishing AM

Capt. Jr. Gibson reports an improvement in the conditions compared to yesterday. Knothead Sea Bass were in abundance, a few keeper Fluke, and a few Porgies came over the rail. The pool winner was Greg Puc from Point Pleasant, NJ, with a 3.25 lb Sea Bass.

Sat Sept 12- 1/2 Day Fishing PM

Capt Jr reports windy conditions that made for a tough trip. But there was an improvement from the morning trip. We caught some nice Sea Bass and a few Porgies. There were a few short Fluke in the mix as well. The pool winner was Tianhoo Xu from Hoboken, NJ, with a 4.25 lb Sea Bass.

Sat Sept. 12- 1/2 Day Fishing AM

Capt. Jr. Gibson reports a not so nice day of fishing today. We had some windy conditions from the start today, but we managed to get a couple beautiful size Fluke and some nice Sea Bass. The pool winner was Peter Guando from Baldwin, NY, with a 8.5 lb Fluke.

Fri Sept 11 – 1/2 Day Fishing PM

Full Report to Follow Pool winner was Pete Ambrose from Sag Harbor, NY with a 3 lb SeaBass.

Fri Sept 11 – Montauk Lighthouse Jumbo Porgies & Knothead SeaBass

Capt Dave reports a good day of fishing on the Viking Star. Porgy fishing was excellent at the lighthouse with mixed size fish. We couldn’t get out to the east with the ebb tide and breeze, so we tried a closer spot and only found a handful of SeaBass and some Porgies there. The first place pool winner was Siv Wah Cheng with a 2 1/2 lb Porgy. The edible pool winner was Jose Rodriguez from Flushing, NY with a 7 lb Bluefish.
