Viking Fleet Fishing Reports

Montauk

Thurs Aug 31 – Full Moon Striped Bass

Capt Carl reports another absolutely FIN-OMINAL Full Moon Trip tonight on the Viking Star! From the first drift to the last, we caught multiple 30, 40, and 50 plus pounders, all released safely! Once again, all anglers onboard caught their PB Striped Bass. We also had some Gorilla smoker Bluefish! It was another night to…

Wed Aug 30 – Whale Watching

Bookended by dolphins and scintillated by a sunset! Although passengers boarded the Viking Starship in the rain yesterday, the sun came out as soon as we set sail and stayed dry for the remainder of the trip. We began, almost immediately, with a group of inshore bottlenose dolphins, which were feeding on small patches of…

Thurs Aug 31 – 1/2 Day Fishing PM

Capt J.R. reports a tough afternoon of fishing on the Viking Star. The large ground swell and the combination of wind made for more difficult conditions and slow fishing. We did however manage a decent pick of keeper fish, with a few Fluke and a handful of SeaBass and Porgies. The pool winner this afternoon…

Thurs Aug 31 – Montauk Lighthouse Jumbo Porgies & Sea Bass

Capt Dave reports a tough trip on the Viking Starship. There was a big ground swell with dirty water that made the fish not bite in our usual spots. After trying a few of these spots with no luck we headed offshore to cleaner water and had a decent pick of mostly large Porgies with mixed size Sea Bass. There were some Mackerel too. The pool winner was Noel Henson from Brooklyn, NY with a 2 lb Porgy.

Thurs Aug 31 – 1/2 Day Fishing AM

Capt JR reports a tough morning on the Viking Star. We had windy conditions to deal with, but we did manage a few nice keeper Fluke. The pool winner was Dylan Herbert with a 4 lb Fluke.

Wed Aug 30 – 1/2 Day Fishing PM

Capt J.R. reports a good afternoon on the Viking Star. A rather large ground swell kept us from our recent hot spots, however, we found some pretty decent action in calmer local waters. Sea bass, porgies, and some KEEPER fluke made up the catch leaving us with some nice looking buckets at the end of…

Wed Aug 30 – 1/2 Day Fishing AM

Capt J.R. a good morning of catching onboard the Viking Star. Lots of SeaBass and Porgies with a couple Fluke kept anglers busy. Everyone had a very nice looking bucket of fish to go home with. There was no pool on the boat this morning.

Tue Aug 29 – 1/2 Day Fishing PM

Capt Steven Sr reports a phenomenal afternoon on the Viking Star. We had fish biting from the time we got there until we left. It was non stop action of Sea Bass, Porgies, Fluke, Mackerel and Sand Sharks. We had plenty of keepers between the shorts, plus a few keeper Fluke. Everyone was busy all…

Tue August 29 – Montauk Lighthouse Jumbo Porgies & Sea Bass

Capt Dave reports a tougher day on the Viking Starship. With the full moon tide running hard we had difficult conditions to deal with. It took us awhile to get the Porgies we needed, but what we did find were really nice quality mostly in the large size range. Sea Bass fishing was really tough with tons of double header shorts. There was a lot of action though and everyone managed a few after picking through them. The pool winner was Jean Cross with a 2 1/2 lb Porgy. Tomorrow’s trip is cancelled.

Sun Aug 27 – Whale Watching

We never stopped looking and found them again! On a gorgeous day with excellent visibility, we headed out in search of cetaceans. We had reports of whales and dolphins near the lighthouse and we found them quickly, within 3 nautical miles. The humpback we saw was one we’d seen in late July, and there were…
