Capt Chris reports a great afternoon trip with lots of Porgy and SeaBass action on the Viking Star. We had tons of healthy bags of fillets all around. Fluking was better today with steady short action and a few nice keepers added in. Pool winner to follow.

Wed Aug 12- Montauk Lighthouse Jumbo Porgies and Knothead SeaBass

Capt. Dave reports a good day of fishing. We had good Porgy fishing by the Lighthouse first thing this morning. We caught medium to large size Porgies. We did well enough to go SeaBassing. We caught a mix of SeaBass of all sizes, and some larger size Porgies. The pool winner was Koon Yuhg Au, fro Brooklyn, NY, with a 3 lb Porgy. The edible pool winner was Benny Niranjan, from Queens, NY, with a 4 lb SeaBass.

Saturday Aug 8- Whale Watching

4 Humpback whales and 2 Minkes. Within 30 minutes of passing Montauk Lighthouse and within 10 minutes of the crew “on-station” to look in earnest for whales, we saw our first blows. Our 1st Humpback was one we had seen last week as well about 8 nm (nautical miles) to the SSW and only about 4 nm from Montauk Lighthouse. This was the first of our 4 Humpbacks and 2 Minke whales of the day. Our 2nd Humpback was 2 miles away at first and joined the other whale in feeding at depth on bunker. We saw massive bunker pods at the surface, but they were only the upper boundaries of giant 80’ thick plumes of bunker. Our Minke whales joined in briefly. A while later, several miles away, we found our last 2 Humpbacks 4 Humpback whales 2 Minke…

Tue Aug 11 – 1/2 Day Fishing PM

Capt Chris reports smiles all around on the Viking Star. Another afternoon of crazy good fishing. Porgies and Seabass topping the buckets with several keeper fluke to boot. There will be plenty of sore arms come the morning! The first and second place pools were won by John Delaney from Patchogue, NY with 4.8 & 4.5 lb Fluke.
