Tue Sept 3 – Montauk Jumbo Porgies & Knothead SeaBass

Capt Dave reports good fishing aboard the Viking Starship. It was slower than the last few days, but we had a steady pick of mostly big Porgies at the lighthouse early this morning. Then we anchored about half way to the SeaBass spot and the Porgy fishing was Red Hot! This lasted for about a half hour with some SeaBass mixed in. After that we headed to the SeaBass spot where it started out slow with mostly Porgies, but the SeaBass started to bite after awhile and we had them up to 5 lbs. There was no pool today.

Sun Sept 1 – Whale Watching

Great trip today on the Viking Starship with Captain Dave in the wheelhouse. Just 15 minutes after passing the Montauk Lighthouse we spotted our first Humpback whale. After leaving the Humpback whale we  saw 2 unidentified whales in the distance.  Passengers were seeing blow in every direction.  We came across 2 Finback whales.  One approached the boat and rolled and exposed their pale underside.  Quite the show from the “greyhound of the ocean”. Approximately 12 Bottlenose Dolphins joined the two Finback whales for a brief time.  After leaving the Finback whales we came across our second Humpback whale fluking several times.  This whale also gave us some flipper slapping which everyone enjoyed.  We continued our search for more marine life.  We continued to see many blows off in the distance.  Unfortunately we were again unable to identify these whales as…

Sun Sep 1- 1/2 Day PM

Capt. Jerry reports good fishing with lots of actions and lot of short Porgies and Seabass. We had good Fluke fishing as well. The first place pool winner was Chris Maniatis from Brooklyn NY, with a 7lb Fluke. The second pool winner was Mohammad Alekozay from Hicksville NY, with a 7 lb Fluke.

Sun Sept 1 -Montauk Jumbo Lighthouse Porgies and Knothead Sea Bass

Captain Dave M reports from the Viking Starship. Excellent conditions near the Montauk Lighthouse this morning. Mixed size fish but plenty of Porgies to fill the increased limit of forty-five per angler that started today. Then we headed East towards Block Island where we found plenty of action. Anglers did have to pick through some shorts but most found plenty of quality Sea Bass and Porgies to be had. First place in the pool went to Nelson Castillo of Central Islip NY with a 2.65 pound Scup. Second place went to Noel Miranda of Queens NY with a 4.8 pound Sea Bass.

Sun Sep 1- 1/2 Day AM

Capt Dave G reports a tough morning of fishing aboard the Viking Star. We had difficult drifting conditions during the trip with the wind against the tide. Still we managed to put together a decent catch of quality keeper fluke, along with some porgies and sea bass. The first pool winner was Paul Winum from…
