Sun Sep 22 – Block Island Jumbo Porgies & Knothead Sea Bass
Capt Dave reports a pretty good day of fishing today in Block Island on the Viking Starship. This morning we started off anchored close to the island and had very good fishing with some very nice sized Porgies with a few SeaBass in the mix. We didn’t see many small fish today, mostly everything that…
Sat Sep 21 – Block Island Jumbo Porgies & Knothead Sea Bass
Capt Dave reports a halfway decent day of fishing today in Block Island on the Viking Starship. Despite poor weather conditions with high winds we still got some nice fish today. This morning was the best pick of fish we had. At first drop we had pretty decent action with some nicer Porgies and a few nice SeaBass. After that conditions got pretty difficult so we had to work our way around and try some different spots out of the wind and pretty much just had a slow pick the rest of the day. The pool winner went to Alonso Morales from Levitown, NY with a 2.8 lb Porgy. The edible pool winner went to Frank Schwab from Rockaway, NY with a 3.7 lb SeaBass. We will be sailing again tomorrow at 5am to Block Island for our 5am Porgies…
Fri Sept 20 – Montauk Lighthouse Jumbo Porgies & Knothead Sea Bass
Capt Dave reports a half-way decent day of fishing today on the Viking Starship. We struggled a little bit with the weather today, not being able to fish in most of the spots we wanted to, but we did still get into some calmer areas that had good action. We saw some nice sized Porgies today with a few decent SeaBass mixed in. There were a lot of little SeaBass to pick through, definitely more throwbacks than keepers, but we did find a good pick, along with a couple Blue fish on the boat. The pool winner today went to Edward Brown from the Bronx with a 2 1/2 lb Porgy. The edible pool winner today went to Marvin the Great from the Bronx as well with a 6 lb Blue fish. We are most definitely sailing tomorrow at 5am…
Mon Sept 16 to Thurs Sept 19 – 3 Day TNT Ultra LTD
Captain JR reports a successful TNT trip on the Viking Star. Despite the approaching weather we were able to squeeze in two days and a night out at the eastern canyons. The tile fishing wasn’t as hot and heavy as our last trip, but still had a decent pick of tiles and other assorted bottom…
Wed Sept 18 – Montauk Lighthouse Jumbo Porgies & Knothead Sea Bass
Capt Dave reports good fishing on the Viking Starship. We began the trip up close to Block Island and had a good mixed bag of quality Porgies and mixed size Sea Bass. When the tide stopped running hard we headed to the west side of the island and it was a bail job of really nice stuff! We got in about an hour and a half of fishing there then headed back to Montauk. There was no pool today. The biggest Porgy was 3 lbs, biggest Sea Bass was 4lbs and we had a 5 lb Fluke. Unfortunately we will be taking off tomorrow due to the expected bad weather.
Tue Sept 17 – Montauk Lighthouse Jumbo Porgies & Sea Bass
Capt Dave reports a decent day on the Viking Starship. We explored close to the beach today and had very good fishing. There was real quality with big Porgies and Sea Bass. It was a tie for the pool today with 2 3/4 lb Porgies between Safet Kavaceic and Staton Mighty from Brooklyn. We will…
Mon Sept 16 – Montauk Lighthouse Jumbo Porgies & Knothead Sea Bass
Capt Dave reports a pretty decent day of fishing today on the Viking Starship. We headed to the east right off the bat this morning and had some issues with the tide. That strong full moon tide was running hard and seemed to bring back in the small SeaBass as we had to pick through…
Sun Sept 15- Whale Watching- Starship
This trip was a gift. The weather was warm like a summer’s day, but with Labor Day two weeks behind us, it felt better than usual. The mood on board was sweet and grateful. We found dolphins (Tamanend’s bottlenose) early, and then spent time with two juvenile humpback whales within a few miles from shore. We decided to continue heading offshore hoping to find the large adults which we spent time with most of the season. As we approached, blows lit up the horizon like (to quote one of our volunteers) fireworks in a summer’s sky. Here, we encountered 16-18 humpbacks, including at least two calves. The calves rested at the surface until breaking into a breach, roll-over, head-stand, and/or tail throw. The adults were in associated pairs and trios surfacing and diving synchronously, feeding on dense patches of bait…
Sun Sept 15 – Full Moon Striped Bass
Captain Carl reports another slower night on the Bass boat. We caught and released a couple GIANT Striped Bass in the 30-50 lb range and a few Blues, showing definite signs of the Fall Run beginning. We are gonna give it another go tonight! The pool winner went to Doug Keller from Southampton, NY.
Sun Sept 15 – 1/2 Day Fishing PM
Captain JR reports a much improved afternoon onboard the Viking Star. The change of tide turned the fluke bite on and we boated some beauties. We also had sea bass and porgies biting all trip keeping everyone busy at the rail. The first prize pool winner went to Eric Garcia from West Milford, NY with…
Sun Sept 15 – Full Day Block Island Fluke & Sea Bass
Capt Steven Sr. reports some nice action today on the Viking Starlite. Despite tough conditions with the wind off of Block Island, the bites were plentiful. We saw a lot of small SeaBass and short Fluke, but did find a good amount keeper SeaBass in the mix, with only a couple Fluke to bring home….
Sun Sept 15 – Montauk Lighthouse Jumbo Porgies & Knothead Sea Bass
Capt Dave reports another good day of fishing today on the Viking Starship. We decided to start off in a similar area as yesterday so we set offshore to the east. With windier conditions today, we decided to drop anchor for our pick. The bite remained steady today on the SeaBass, seeing some really large…
