Wed 8/5-Fri 8/7 – 48 Hour Tuna
Capt Steven Jr reports that we had another great trip on the Viking Fivestar. We had 17 Yellowfin, 2 Albacore, 4 Big Eyes, a few Mahi and a niceSword! The night fishing has been improving the last few trips with quite a few Sword bites every night. Sun Aug 8- 1/2 Day Fishing PM
Capt. JR reports loads of action from start to finish. Jumbo Porgies made up the majority of the catch for the first half of the trip. The second half we took a ride to some deeper rock piles and captured some big beautiful knot head Seabass to round out the catch. The pool winner was…
Sun Aug 8- 1/2 Day Fishing AM
Capt. JR reports that morning was good. Big Porgies some nice big Seabass. Also some really nice keeper Fluke in the mix. The pool winner was Atsushi Shiina from Scarsdale, NY, with a 6.25 lb Fluke .
Sun Aug 8- Jumbo Lighthouse Porgies and Seabass
Capt. Dave reports a good day onboard the Viking Starship. We started the day off fishing over by the SeaBass grounds, where everyone was able to catch their limit of SeaBass; some were even able to catch a couple of keeper Fluke. Out by the lighthouse, we caught a majority of large sized Porgies. Today’s pool winner went to Ian Harrison from Bronx, NY with a 3lb Porgy.
Sat Aug 7 – Whale Watching
Only fainting glimpses today. Nice weather, favorable seas and 10+ miles of visibility, while traveling over 44 miles only yielding a few of us a brief view of a cetacean. We had an unidentified whale blow spotted by one of our CRESLI volunteers a mile or so behind us. We searched long and hard but never saw the whale come up again. A while later, a dolphin was spotted by a few members of the crew only to swim away and not seen again. We also had an unknown shark species swim by close to the boat, giving people on that side a quick view before disappearing. We do not get many trips like this with great conditions and little to no sightings. Our track record says we will have better days in the future. 1 unidentified whale species blow…
Sat Aug 7- 1/2 Day Fishing PM
Capt. JR reports a good pick of large Porgies with a few Seabass in the mix. It was action from start to finish, rods bent all trip. The pool winner was Angelo Demetroulakos from Brooklyn, NY, with a 5.5 lb Fluke.
Sat Aug 7- 3/4 Day Fishing
Capt. Steven Sr. reports a fantastic morning aboard the Viking Starlite. We caught plenty of Seabass, Porgies, and there was a handful of Fluke in the mix. The pool winner was Chris Theodore with 3 Fluke weighing 5 lbs. The second pool winner was Martin Dowd with a 4.4 lb Seabass.
Sat Aug 7- Jumbo Lighthouse Porgies and Seabass
Capt. Dave reports an action packed trip from start to finish. We started out Seabassing today and got an excellent catch of jumbo Seabass with some Porgies mixed in. We had 4-5 keeper Fluke on board today. We spent the last part of the trip over at the Lighthouse where we got plenty of very nice medium size Porgies, Fluke, and jumbo Seabass.The pool winner was Marvin Kelsey from Bronx, NY, with a 3 lb Porgy. The edible pool winner was Tim Martin from Harrisonburg, VA, with a 5 lb Seabass.
Sat Aug 7- 1/2 Day Fishing AM
Capt. JR reports a very good trip this morning aboard the Viking Star. Lots of Seabass and Porgies came up around the boat all trip long. We also had an excellent catch of big beautiful Fluke. The most we have seen in weeks. The first place pool winner was Ryan Hameyer from Kings Park, NY, with a 6 lb Fluke. The second pool winner was Chris Lewis from Edgewater, NJ, with a 5.25 lb Fluke.
Fri Aug 6- 1/2 Day Report PM
Capt. JR reports a good day on the Viking Star. We had a good pick of SeaBass and Porgies with lots of action all trip.
Fri Aug 6 – Montauk Lighthouse Jumbo Porgies & Knothead SeaBass
Capt. Dave reports a decent day on the Viking Starship. The fishing conditions weren’t ideal due to a ground swell in our area. It was a slow pick out by the lighthouse, we caught a variety of sized Porgies. We then ventured out east for one drift, and caught a nice mix of SeaBass. Despite the conditions, everyone went home with their limit of nicer sized SeaBass. Today’s place pool winners were Sherron Smith from New Jersey with a 2.1lb Porgy, and Danny Yuen from New York with a 3.6lb SeaBass.
Fri Aug 6 – 1/2 Day Fishing AM
Captain JR reports, we had a very productive morning on the Viking Star. We had lots of action the whole trip with Sea Bass and Porgies being the predominant catch. We were very happy to see a few nice XL Fluke come up as well, one tipping the scales at 11.25 lbs!!! The pool winner…
