Fri Jan 24 – Winter Cod – Viking Fivestar
Capt Steven Jr reports a tough go at it today never getting a good bite going. We only had a handful of fish in the early hours when the bite has been best for us. The rest of the day remained slow with the Cod, but we ended with a load of big Cunners. High hook was Nasty Nessel of Montauk with 3 Cod and 2 Pollock. Weather is going to keep us at the dock for the next few days, but we will be back at it as soon as the weather allows.
Fri Jan 24 – Winter Cod – Viking Star
Capt Steven Sr reports a beautiful day with a slow bite. We put the effort in and put some fish on the boat. We started out in the deep water where we have been catching the Cod, but we had dogfish. We hunted around there for awhile and only had a few fish. We moved to the shallower water and drifted. We found Cod and Bergalls and worked the area awhile picking some on every drift. After that died out we moved even shallower and anchored. We had a good shot of Cod and Bergalls. When the wind changed from NW to NE it went dead. It wasn’t the best, but every one enjoyed the day. The first place pool winner was Lee Pluhowski from Montauk with an 8 lb Cod. The second place pool winner was Dave Keller from…

Thurs Jan 23 – Winter Cod – Viking Fivestar
COD!!! Capt Steven Jr reports a slammer morning with Cod up to 30lbs! Once again the bite was over early and the rest of the day we never found anything to work on. While they were biting the group of ten guys managed their limit of nice Cod and a few shorts. Bill Bennett got his new personal best Cod at 30.5 lbs. Tomorrow looks like our last day for a while with the weekends blow coming, but we are keep our eye on it for next week and hopefully we can get back at it.
Thurs Jan 23 – Winter Cod – Viking Star
Capt Steven Sr reports a slow day on the Viking Star. We had some Cod in the morning, but we couldn’t get them to stay with us. We tried to grind it out, but unfortunately we didn’t have a lot to show for it. The first place pool winner was Justin McCann from Staten Island, NY with a 10 lb Cod. The second place pool winner was Fernando Wong from Queens, NY with a 7 lb Cod. Honorable mention goes to John with a 20 lb Cod. He was unfortunately not in the pool!
Thurs Jan 23 – Early Report – Viking Fivestar
Great start to the day with fish to 30lbs. Now fishing daily. Available for Private Charter.
Wed Jan 22 – Winter Cod – Viking Fivestar
COD!!! Capt Steven Jr reports a good day, but a bit slower then it has been the last few days. It was a good pick of fish early in the day, but shortly after sunrise the bite died. From there we did a lot of looking and only found a couple more fish scattered around for the rest of the day. James W. Schneider was high hook with 12 keepers with most guys averaging 3 to 4 keepers.
Wed Jan 22 – Winter Cod – Viking Star
Capt Steven Sr reports that we started with a pick of Cod. The second fish over the rail was the first place pool winner at 21.2 lbs. We continued the morning with a slow pick for a few hours with most fish coming up at the aft end of the boat. High hook had 5 Cod and some anglers ended up with 2 or 3 fish. We also saw a couple of Ling and Bergalls. We read bait on the machines, but we just couldn’t get them to chew like they have been. The New Moon possibly had an effect on the fishing. We will be back at it tomorrow! The first place pool winner was Paul Ripperger with the 21.2 lb Cod. The second place pool winner was Eddie Eurell with a 9 1/2 lb Cod.
Tue Jan 21 – Winter Cod – Viking Fivestar
COD!!! Capt Steven Jr reports another slammer day with a light crowd and limits all around! The fish bit fast and furious early, but slowed to a pick then died right out by mid morning, but we had what we needed by then. We tried a couple other drops to check out what was around and didn’t find much, then headed in a little early. High hook had 22 Cod (orl) up to 24lbs and we had a handful of Pollock in the mix as well. Weather is beautiful the rest of the week and we will have two boats sailing daily! Give us a call and get in on the hot bite before it’s too late! The Viking Fivestar is sold out thru Friday. Reservations a must as trips are filling up! Give us a call at (631)668-5700 or…
