Viking Fleet Fishing Reports

Wed Aug 28 – Montauk Jumbo Porgies & Knothead SeaBass

Capt Dave reports excellent fishing on the Viking Star today. We had Big Big Porgies and plenty of them at the lighthouse. There were also a bunch of Bluefish. We also headed offshore for a quick drift and almost everyone had their limit of keeper SeaBass. There were also some keeper Fluke up to 5 lbs. Unfortunately the angler with the biggest Fluke was not in the pool! The first place pool winner was Chief Johnson from Brooklyn, NY with a 3.1 lb Scup. The edible pool winner was Amin Paredes from NY, NY with a 3.7 lb Sea Bass.

Wed Aug 28 – 1/2 Day Fishing AM

Capt Dave G reports a good morning of fishing aboard the Viking Stariper. Despite the difficult weather conditions the fish were biting from the beginning of the trip until the end. We ended up with a nice catch of sea bass and porgies. The pool winner was Henry Ruh with a 3 lb SeaBass.

Tue Aug 27 – 1/2 Day Fishing PM

Capt Dave G reports a good afternoon of fishing aboard the Viking Star. We had great conditions for the afternoon trip, and the fish were hungry. We caught 5 keeper Fluke, Porgies, big Sea Bass, and a Striped Bass. The first place pool winner was Alyssa Frey from Coram, NY with a 5.25 lb Fluke. The edible pool winner was Ethan Ayer from NYC, NY with a 4.25 lb Sea Bass.

Tue Aug 27 – Montauk Jumbo Porgies & Knothead SeaBass

Capt Dave reports good fishing on the Viking Star. We had to do some looking around this morning and we did find a nice pile of fish. It was excellent on the flood tide and they were mostly large Porgies. We had a slow period when the tide started to ebb, but after that it got really good again. It was mostly Porgies today with some SeaBass and 100 + Bluefish! The pool winner was Ifa Gordon from the Bronx with a 2.9 lb Scup. The edible pool winner was Ed Green from Brooklyn with a 3.1 lb SeaBass.

Tues Aug 27- 1/2 Day AM

Capt Dave G reports a good morning of fishing aboard the Viking Stariper. We had some rough conditions to start the trip, leftover from yesterday’s windstorms. However, the fish were biting from the first drop on. We put together a nice catch of porgies and sea bass, and the conditions improved as the morning went on. The first pool winner was Ava Ruperto from Westbury NY, with a 4.35 lb Seabass at just 11 years old! The second place pool winner was Luis Diana From Westbury NY with a 4.15 lb Porgy.  

Mon Aug 26 – Montauk Jumbo Lighthouse Porgies and Knothead Sea Bass

Captain Dave reports from the Viking Star. Wind and water conditions near the lighthouse sent us West down the beach where we had a nice pick of medium to large Porgies. In the mix today were some quality Sea Bass and Mackerel. Pool winner today was Jeff Lin of Bayside Queens NY with a 2.6 pound Scup.  

Mon Aug 26 – 48 Hour Tuna – Viking Fivestar

48 Hour Tuna Trip – Viking Fivestar Fri Aug 23 to Sun Aug 25 Capt Steven Jr reports a great trip off to the deep this weekend with 4 nice Big Eyes and a handful of big Yellowfin! We started off down where we have been fishing most of the year and we had a nice Yellowfin on the chunk, but the water just didn’t seem right. We couldn’t get anything going on the troll that morning, so we decided take a gamble and try a new piece of water another 40 miles away and it paid off!! As soon as we found the break we started marking fish and we put together a nice trip in a couple hours of fishing. Captain Dave M reports rough conditions proved challenging for anglers on the Viking Star today. We traveled far to the West along the beach. We had a slow delicate pick of Porgies and some nice Triggerfish. First place pool winner was Kam Tai from Pennsylvania with a 2.7 pound Scup. Second place in the pool went to Santo Green from the Bronx, NY with a 4.2 pound Triggerfish. Sat Aug 24- 1/2 Day PM

Capt. Phil reports very good fishing this afternoon. We caught a bunch of Sea Bass and lots of big Porgies. Today was one of the best trips for Fluke this month. Lots of keeper Fluke that were all good sized fish. The first pool winner was Chris Maniatis from Brooklyn NY, with a 8 lb Fluke. The second place winner was Jason Ruiz from East Hampton NY, with a 6.55 lb Fluke.  

Fri Aug 24 -Montauk Jumbo Porgies & Knothead SeaBass

Capt Dave reports a great day on the Viking Star. We had excellent Porgy fishing at the lighthouse with medium to large fish. We then went offshore and had a lot of action with SeaBass. You had to pick through the smaller ones, but everyone had their limit of good sized SeaBass. We also had some Mackerel and Bluefish. The first place pool winner was Danny Ko from Brooklyn, NY with a 3.1 lb Scup The edible pool winner was Anthony White from Long Beach, NY with a 3.9 lb SeaBass.
