Viking Fleet Fishing Reports

Captain Dave reports from the Viking Starship. We changed things up a little this trip and started off to the East closer to Block Island. Lots of quality, healthy Sea Bass. A few keeper Fluke and a few good Porgies were taken before we headed back West towards the Montauk Lighthouse. Porgies a little off the bite at the light, but anglers continued to bring in some sizable Sea Bass. The winner of the pool was BIlly Lau of Brooklyn NY with a 3 pound Scup. All are anglers arrived at the dock with plenty of fish to take home.

Captain Carl reports on the Viking Stariper. Excellent fishing today.  The captain, crew and anglers all enjoyed the almost perfect weather conditions.  Rods were bending all morning.  Loads of Sea Bass, almost everyone got their daily limit of keepers.  Some Porgies were brought aboard and a good amount of keeper Fluke.  First place in the pool was Kaitlin Cestaro with a 7.1 pound Fluke.  Second place in the pool went to Mike Capone  with a 3.2 pound Fluke. Both of these winners were from Medford, NY.

Capt. Carl reports a god trip that started off with tons of action. We had lots of Seabass and some small Flukes. Later on in the trip we found some nice keeper Flukes to fill in the missing. The pool winner was Vanessa Levy from Rockville Center, with a 2o inch and 2 1/2 lb…

Capt. Dave reports from The Viking Starship excellent Porgy fishing this morning, we went down the beach due to the tide and had great action. The Porgies were a bit smaller than usual but we got some good keepers and decided to go offshore and drift for some Sea Bass. We picked through a bunch of small Sea Bass but the keepers we got were nice in size. We had some Trigger Fish, Bluefish, and some Mackerel. The pool winner was Juan Sanchez from NY, NY with a 3 lb Porgy.  

Capt Dave G reports a good morning of fishing aboard the Viking Star. We had a good bite to start, on the end of the flood tide. Then the bite was strong again on the beginning of the outgoing tide. All in all it was a good trip. We ended up with a nice catch…

Capt. Phill reports a good trip with bass up to 35 lbs. We caught a lot of blues and a couple of bass. During the day we caught porgies and some blues during our jigging period. The pool winner was Christos Farantatos from Hudson NY, with a 35 lb striped bass.

Capt. Phill reports a beautiful day for fishing. There was good fishing with tons of Seabass action good Fluke fishing and some Porgies mixed in. We got a lot of keeper Seabass and a handful of kepper Fluke. The first place pool winner was Christian Eckart from Hampton Bays, NY, with a 6.0 lb Fluke….

Capt Dave reports excellent fishing on the Viking Starship. We started out offshore for SeaBass and we had a lot of action. We had a bunch of small ones we threw back, but everyone had keeper size Jumbos. We moved on to the lighthouse for the rest of the day drifting for Porgies and we had very good fishing. The first place pool winner was Tee Kuldip from Elmont, NY with a 2 3/4 lb Scup. The edible pool winner was Ron Thapa from Elmont, NY with a 3 lb SeaBass.

Capt Mike reports steady fishing on the Viking Star. It was a really nice morning with anglers catching keeper Fluke, really nice SeaBass, Mackerel and Bluefish. The first place pool winner was Noh Park from Fresh Meadows, NY with a 4.5 lb Fluke. The second place pool winner was Matt Messina from Wading River, NY with a 3.2 lb Fluke.

Minke Whale on a Beautiful Day We left Montauk harbor today with beautiful blue skies and good visibility to search for whales and had just enough of a swell to give the passengers an exciting “ride”. We cruised along the south shore of Montauk and enjoyed great views of the bluffs and hills. As usual we saw some pelagic seabirds, either skimming the waters or diving for fish and although we were several miles offshore we also had many butterflies fly past the ship. > We then came upon a Minke whale, about 5 miles south of Montauk town. It surfaced several times in a few locations around the boat. Since there were patches of small fish under the ship we assume it was actively feeding. 1/2 Day Fishing PM Capt Joey D reports a pretty good afternoon on the Viking Star. It started out slow, but once the tide got moving we had action with Fluke, SeaBass and Porgies and a lot of Sea Robbins. The pool winner was Linda Statam from Westhampton Beach with a 5 lb Fluke.
