Mon Aug 10 – Whale Watching
Another spectacular trip – 2 species of cetaceans along with hundreds of cow-nosed trays and thousands of Wilson’s Storm petrels We met a small pod of early in our voyage (they typically are not found in water deeper than 120 feet). Not surprisingly, we met a large aggregation of Tamanend’s bottlenose dolphins on our way…
Tue Aug 11 – Montauk Lighthouse Jumbo Porgies & Knothead Sea Bass
Capt Dave reports an okay day on the Viking Starship. The trip started with a hard flood tide at the lighthouse, so we went down the beach. It was kind of picky there. We headed to the Sea Bass spot and it was loaded with mostly small fish. We did have some keeper Sea Bass…
Tues Aug 11 – 1/2 Day Fishing AM
Captain JR reports a slower morning onboard the Viking Star. We did end up with a pick of Seabass, Porgies, and Fluke. But, the size wasn’t quite on our side. Some nice keeper Fluke and Seabass were around, unfortunately it was definitely a slower trip overall. The first place pool winner was Jim Haulihan from…
Sun Aug 9 – Whale Watching
Another great day on the water! It was already a successful trip when we left the dock exchanging cool ocean breezes for the heat and humidity on land. As the Viking Starship passed Montauk Point, the captain spotted dolphins to the east, which we quickly investigated. Here we found between 40-60 Tamanend’s bottlenose dolphins which…
Sat Aug 8 – Whale Watching
Another successful 3 species trip! On today’s trip we escaped the oppressive heat on land and headed to cooler waters (cooler compared to land but much warmer that the lower 50’s sea surface temperature (SST) we had in May) and initially found 50-60 Tamanend’s bottlenose dolphin and 1 fin whale close to Montauk Light We…

Capt. Steven Sr. reports a tough afternoon of fishing today. We had some keeper Fluke, Porgies ,and Seabass, but the bite was definitely not as good as this morning. We had no pool this afternoon but did have a nice 4 lb Fluke on board. uke brought over the rails.
Mon Aug 10 – Montauk Lighthouse Jumbo Porgies & Knothead Sea Bass
Captain Dave reports another excellent day of fishing. Fishing was a little slower starting off because of the tide, but it picked up towards the end of the trip. Today we caught plenty of Fluke, Porgies, and Sea Bass. Congratulations to our pool winner, Mo Grossman, who caught 2.6-lb Porgy.

Capt. Steven Sr. reports an excellent day of fishing. We had more Fluke action today than we have all season. Nice beautiful Fluke, Porgies, and Seabass were coming over the rails keeping us busy the whole trip. Everyone got some beautiful fish to cook up for dinner. The first pool winner was Yoshi Finnabashi from…
Sun Aug 9 – 1/2 Day Fishing
Captain JR reports an improved afternoon on the Viking Star. Things started out on a high note with lots of fluke and a few Porgies and Seabass keeping us very busy. We found some very nice KEEPER Fluke early on until the tide eased off. Things definitely slowed to a pick after the change but…
Sun Aug 9 – Montauk Lighthouse Jumbo Porgies and Knothead Seabass
Capt. Dave reports a slow steady pick this morning. At about mid day we hit a weird lull where there was very little action. After about 30 mins the fish started biting again. We had a good mix of Porgies, Seabass, Sea Robbins, some Bluefish and one keeper Fluke. The first pool winner was Noel…
Sun Aug 9 – 1/2 Day Fishing AM
Captain JR reports a tougher morning onboard the Viking Star. The moon tide definitely had the fish off the bite a bit. But, we had a pick of Seabass, Porgies, Fluke, and a couple Trigger fish for most of the trip. Not the usual level of catching we have been having, but everyone got a…
