Block  Island Behemoth Trophy Hunt Captain Ant reports an excellent night at Block, with both quantity and quality.  We actually had our best night of the year for quantity and totaled 5 fish over the 30lb mark.  Two  anglers especially were on fire.  Chris “Cool Hand” Luke had 5 total bass, a 37.2lb pool fish, a 34, a 28 another keeper around 10lbs and a throwback…nothing like getting the smallest and the largest.  Frank “Guiness” Stoutenberg was the first to nail a Behemoth and came in second with a 36.8lb trophy.  Frank also added a 31, and 26lb fish.  Jonny “Jesus of the Elbow” had his limit to 34lbs, Our good old friend Don “Juan” Mitchell nailed a beauty, always silent but deadly with the rod and reel!!!  “The Big Man” Jeff Thompson also had his limit to about 25lbs….

Half Day PM Captain Joe reports that fishing was good this afternoon on the fluke grounds we also had a nice mess of  scup and sea bass. The pool winner was Ben Greenspan from Glen Cove, NY with a 4.3 lb fluke. Flukasaurus Cod Wrecks Cultivator Shoals Capt Steven Sr reports they started out fishing on a deep water wreck on our way to fluke grounds and it was very good with market cod 5-7lb fish with the largest at 21.8lbs. After a few hours of cod fishing coolers had a good start to them. We went off to fluke fishing but fluke were hunkered down because of the rare species of dog fish. There were doggies everywhere. We would make a drift catching 5-6 fluke but the dogs would find us. There were dogs from 10 inches to 3…

Wednesday July 3

Night Striped Bass Captain Anthony can finally say MOOOOO! We got them big last night, late but big! We caught the last of the flood and the fish were stacked! We were only able to manage 1 keeper and 1 shorty in these drifts. We bailed the scup and fluke on the jigs so at least rods were bending. We sat through 2 full hours of lull, lost a couple of nice bites, but with an hour to go the big boys started biting. We had a total of 4 fish over 30lbs! George “Novelist” Jehn nailed a 38.5lb and a 31.7lb striped bass. Gunther Vanderdoesch took with pool with a 38lb 8 oz striper and Chase Derasmi took second place with his 33lb striper. Justin, Bryan and Jesse did a phenomenal job assisting all of the anglers aboard the…

Sunday June 30

Sunday June 30 Half Day Fluke PM Captain Anthony reports another super fluke trip on the Viking Starship! Our first couple drifts produced nothing in the dirty flood tide. So we poked around for the clean green and we bailed them! We had fluke, scup and even a striper. Thanks to Dylan this time around for the photos! Today’s pool winner was Roy Weydig of Glenwood Landing with a 4.9lb fluke. Half Day Fluke AM Captain Anthony reports OUTSTANDING fishing today. Fluke were chewing their heads off! It was a 5 to 1 ratio, but when you catch over 100, the keeper add up. We had plenty of JUMBO ocean porgies as well and nice sea bass up to 5lbs (released unharmed). The pool fish was a solid 5 pounder. Even the Vikings own Kobi caught a keeper! Unfortunately with…

Saturday June 29th

Saturday June 29 Half Day Fluke PM Capt Ant report A decent PM trip we went back to our morning spot, nailed 3 keepers immediately, then brown water and the wind came up  and we were flying. The bite shut down so we moved on and had a decent bite with higher shorts to keeper ratio but still managed a decent catch and some monster Porgies. Half Day Fluke AM Captain Anthony reports excellent fishing despite tough early conditions. We crushed shorties to start the day only picking a couple for the frying pan. Once the tide began to flood, the keepers started biting! We also had a mix of porgysaurus’, some blues and a few sea bass (released unharmed). Today’s first place pool winner was Elizabeth Serge- Lawrence of Sag Harbor with a 4.5lb fluke and in second was…
