Local Cod
Captain Steven Sr. reports a very good day on the cod grounds aboard the Viking Starship. The day started out very cold and windy but we pushed on and made it to the fishing grounds where the cod were waiting and hungry! We anchored and the first half hour was phenomenal cod fishing! 90% were all keeper cod with fish up to 18lbs! Then the sun came up and the wind dropped out, so we began to drift. Some drifts were better than others, but there was tons of action with a mix of keepers and some shorts. It began to quiet down around 1pm and we went west, but we came to the results of no wind, no tide and no bites. We marked herring and mackerel and overall we had an excellent day of winter cod fishing! Keep an eye on our website for when we will be sailing next!
