4 Day Full Moon Sword/Big Eye Hunt Ultra LTD
Capt Jerry reports a promising start to our 2017 Tuna Season. The whole trip saw some tough weather conditions to battle. The first night we caught some good size yellowfin in the 60 to 80 lb class, a surprising 200 lb thresher shark, a pup sword released, and some other big break offs. The next day saw a couple mahi, 1 albacore, and an estimated 125 lb blue marlin released, all trolling. The next night saw many bites, many break offs, but sadly no landings due to rough seas and stiff winds. The morning saw a couple more albacore landed, as well as some more mahi, another estimated 300 lb blue marlin safely released. The last night of the trip we had 3 more pup swords released and the tuna didn’t want to bite. All in all it was a productive trip for our first one and we are looking forward to getting back out there since there was a ton of life!! First place in the tuna pool was Jimmy Yanolatos from Belmore, NY, who also took second place tuna as well with an 86 lb yellowfin and a 71 lb yellowfin. Jeff Thompson from Elmont, NY took the edible pool with the 200 lb thresher shark.
