Mon July 26- Codfest/ Nantucket Wreck Private Charter
Capt Dave G reports excellent fishing on the John Viol Cod/Fluke Charter. On Day 1 we started out on the cod grounds. The first couple drifts started slowly, but then the tide came on and it was lock and load! Lots and lots of cod all around the boat, with some pollack, a few haddock, and some nice size monkfish in the mix. The cod were all market size, no real big ones were caught. But we were able to avoid the dogfish because we only fished with jigs and jellyworms. We had our boat limit of cod by mid-afternoon. Late on Day 1 we explored some new fluke grounds which were very productive. There were a lot of nice size keepers caught, with several 6-8 pounders and 1 over 10 lbs. On Day 2 we continued the fluke hunt and had a great day. We had our boat limit of jumbo fluke and sea bass by lunchtime. Most of the fluke on the boat were in the 5-8 lb range, with one more over 10 lbs. The pool winners for the trip were Donna Ligouri with an 11 lb fluke, Gianni Giorgini with an 8 lb. cod, and Jeff Salukis with a 15 lb. monkfish.
All in all this was a great trip. Capt Dave, Capt Kevin, and mates Jesse and David would like to thank John Viol and Donna for putting the trip together. We are already looking forward to next year’s trip!
