Tue Sept 13 to Thurs Sept 15 – 60 Hour Tuna/Mahi LTD

Capt JR reports a fantastic trip on the Viking Star. We left the dock and steamed off to the DEEP DEEP picking off a few Yellow Fin Tuna on the trip south. We got to the zone in perfect time for a sunset troll bite. However, the fish did not cooperate. We spent the night picking away at Mahi’s and trying for some Swords.

The next morning the sunrise trolling bite was on! We were hooking up two and four at a time into some BIG and MEAN Bigeye Tuna. We boated most of them before the bite died down. We traveled around midday to some pots picking off some more Mahi’s and drifting around some fishy areas catching some small Yellow Fins.

We made our way back to where we had found the Bigeye’s earlier that morning and it was INSANE. Four straight hours of an EPIC jig bite for massive tackle busting Bigeye Tuna!! It was nonstop action with multiple fish on at all times. We boated some real slob eyeballs. Most fish were 60-80lbs. We had 6 fish over 100lbs up to 160Lbs. Countless other jumbos swam away due to operator error and/or inferior tackle. We ran out of room in our boxes and used the last of our ice to cover the catch and head home. This was really an incredible trip. There are still some spots left on our upcoming trips. Tue Sept 27, Monday Oct 3 and Tue Oct 11. Give us a call in the office or book online at vikingfleet.com
