Mon Sep 18 – Block Island Jumbo Porgies & Knothead Sea Bass
Capt Dave reports a great start to our first day of the Block Island Porgy and SeaBass fishing on the Viking Starship. Despite some rainy conditions we had a very good day of fishing with a steady pick all day. For our or first trip of the fall we did a lot of exploring and moving around, just trying out some of our regular spots looking for piles of fish. We had fish at every spot we went, with mixed bag pick at all spots with Seabass, Porgies, Fluke, Mackerell, and Blue fish. Not many Porgies on the jumbo side today, more mediums and large than anything, but we did see bigger and better fish as we moved more and more into the deeper water. We definitely saw an uptick in the SeaBass, with of good size fish coming over the rail. The first prize pool winner today went to Kyle Jones from Brooklyn, NY with a 2.9 lb. Porgy. We are sailing again tomorrow (Tuesday, September 19) at 5am for our Block Island Jumbo Porgies and SeaBass trip.
