Fri July 12 – Montauk Lighthouse Jumbo Porgies & Sea Bass
Capt Dave reports excellent Porgy fishing today on the Viking Starship. We started our morning off by the lighthouse in some of our usual grounds and had great shot of some large sized Porgies with very little throwback, seeing mostly large and jumbo sized. We did well enough early on that we got to venture offshore and do some Seabass fishing in the deeper water. The ratio of keepers to throwbacks wasn’t great, having to pick through a lot of little fish to find our keepers. However, we did see some nice sizes mixed in with our large SeaBass being around 3 and a half pounds. In that deeper water we did fall into a pile of Mackerell as well, from tinker size to big eye chubs, as well as a couple keeper Fluke. Our first prize pool winner today went to Mr. “Fatman C” from Harlem, NY with a 2 3/4 lb Porgy. We will be sailing again tomorrow at 5 am on our Montauk Lighthouse Jumbo Porgies and Knothead SeaBass!
