Thurs July 18 – Montauk Lighthouse Jumbo Porgies & Knothead Sea Bass

Capt Dave reports a productive day of fishing on the Viking Starship. This morning started out difficult with a strong tide in combination with a large ground swell, we tried working one of our usual spots, but the bite seemed to be thrown off, with a lot of little fish coming up. We decided to make a little bit offshore to get some better conditions and had a decent shot of some better sized Porgies, SeaBass, and some Mackerell. When the tide switched up we made out way back in to anchor up around the lighthouse and had some excellent Porgy fishing, with some nice quality fish, lot of double-headers. We finished our day off fishing closer to Block Island targeting our SeaBass and had to pick through a lot of little fish to get those nice quality sized fish just under 4lbs. The pool winner today went to James Hom from Manhattan, NY with a 2.6 lb Porgy! We will be sailing again tomorrow at 5am for our Montauk Lighthouse Jumbo Porgies and Knothead SeaBass, our ticket office will be open at 4am for sales!
