Mon Aug 5 – Montauk Lighthouse Jumbo Porgies & Knothead Sea Bass
Capt Dave reports a good day of fishing today on the Viking Starship. First thing this morning, fishing was excellent with a great shot of Porgies for about 30-45 minutes and the tide switched and the bite dropped out. We started to work our way to the east to escape the tide and had ok action. We then got into our SeaBass grounds and picked through a bunch of small fish, we definitely had less keepers to throwbacks today, but managed a few nice ones. We later made our way back to finish off our trip drifting off the lighthouse for a little over an hour and had fantastic fishing with mostly medium to large fish, no real jumbo Porgies today. The first prize pool winner went to Mr. Lee from Manhattan, NY with a 2.2 lb Porgy. We will be sailing again tomorrow on the Viking Starship at 5am for our Montauk Jumbo Porgies and SeaBass.
