Sat Sep 28 – Block Island Fall Jumbo Porgies & Knothead Sea Bass
Capt Dave reports a good day of fishing today on the Viking Starship fishing up close to the island. This mornings bite started off absolutely excellent with the first drift being a slammer, having double-header Porgies and SeaBass fish coming over the rails all over the boat. We had a lot of size on the first drift from medium to large sized Porgies and SeaBass. When we got onto that second drift we we got onto a huge pile of Striped Bass and Blues, with some monster Bass coming over the rails only to be thrown back because they were over the slot size, but we did manage to boat a couple keeper Bass and a few Blue fish. When we went for our next it seemed like all the big fish scared off the Porgies in this area so we ventured further offshore snd got onto a steady pick of some more Porgies and SeaBass. We also saw some keeper Cod and Fluke offshore today, as well as a lot of Mackerell. The pool winner today went to Lau Kwok from Brooklyn, NY with a 2 1/2 lb Porgy. The edible pool went to Abel Ventura from El Salvador with a 3 lb SeaBass. We will be sailing again tomorrow at 5am.
