Fri Aug 21 – Whale Watching

A challenging yet successful trip !

The predicted conditions offshore where we’d been seeing whales was such that to ride there to search there would have been extremely uncomfortable. Since the nearshore waters are where we expect to see Tamanend’s bottlenose bolphins and juvenile humpback whales, we decided to turn west at the lighthouse and search those waters those nearshore. Early on, we found a small group of Tamanend’s bottlenose dolphin and stayed with them for a while. Then headed off to find humpback whales. We did find a juvenile humpback that surfaced periodically, and eventaully did fluke and unfortunately camera issues prevented the capture of useful humpback photos.

  • 15-20 Tamanend’s bottlenose dophins
  • 3-4 juvenile humpback whale (no photos taken due to camera malfunction)
