Sat Oct 3 – Whale Watching Charter
Humpbacks and dolphins!
A week after the Nor’easter of late September 2026 we headed out again on a trip chartered by Stony Brook University’s Marine Science Club and others. This was a beautiful, cool crisp and windy day. Our plan was to turn west after Montauk Lighthouse (the 4th oldest commissioned lighthouse in the US) and stay nearshore to look for juvenile humpbacks (i.e., those under 39.37 feet (12 meters) in length). Just offshore of Amsterdam Beach State Park we encountered our 1st humpback and about 12-15 Tamanend’s bottlenose dolphins. Ultimately, we found 3 different humpback whales: Milkweed’s 2020 calf, Wildfire (GOM), and a new humpback yet to be identified. This trip marked our 6th month of whale watching for 2026 and 1 more trip is scheduled for October 10, 2026 at 10-4. Please go to https://vikingfleet.com/whale-
