Tue Aug 1 – Full Moon Striped Bass
Capt Carl reports a slower night on the Full Moon Trip. We had pretty good action in the beginning of the trip with Bluefish, Giant Porgies, and some Sea Bass, but the Stripers eluded us tonight. The slight northerly breeze didn’t help. Either way, at least we had some fun in the beginning of the…
Tue Aug 1 – 12/ Day Fishing PM
Capt JR reports that this afternoon’s trip on the Viking Star had MUCH better quality of fish than our past few outings. We found some very nice knot head Sea Bass, Jumbo Porgies, and some very nice KEEPER Fluke. A couple anglers did very well boating 3 KEEPER Fluke and their limit of Sea Bass….
Tue Aug 1 – Montauk Lighthouse Jumbo Porgies & Knothead Sea Bass
Capt Dave reports some really good fishing today on the Viking Starship. We decided to try something different today to escape the strong tide from the full moon, by the heading down the beach. It was an excellent showing of fish today, with large sized everything. We had plenty large Porgies, as well as SeaBass,…
Tue Aug 1 – 1/2 Day Fishing AM
Capt JR reports that on the Viking Star we found a pick of fish everywhere we went. Sea bass and Porgies were the most common catch, with some Fluke action also bending rods. By the end of the trip buckets had a good catch of Sea Bass, Porgies, and a few keeper Fluke to go…
Mon July 31 – Full Moon Striped Bass
Capt Carl reports lots of action on last nights FULL MOON trip! From the first drift and for the first couple of hours we had rods bending all around the boat catching mostly Bluefish, Giant Porgies, and a couple of Striped Bass. Unfortunately, the Striped Bass that we did land were either over or under…
Mon July 31 – 1/2 Day Fishing PM
Capt J.R. reports a big improvement fishing this afternoon on the Viking Star from this morning’s trip. There was a lot more life all around. Big Porgies, SeaBass and mostly smaller Fluke kept anglers busy all trip. The Fluke bite was definitely better with a lot more short life everywhere we went. The pool winner for this afternoon’s trip was Scott Southwick from Miller Place, NY with a 5.2 lb Fluke.
Mon July 31 – Montauk Lighthouse Jumbo Porgies & Knothead Sea Bass
Capt Dave reports a slow started today fishing on the Viking Starship. We started off the morning fishing for Porgies in some of our usual spots, but the fish just didn’t seem to be biting the same, we saw a lot of little stuff with a handful or decent sized fish this morning. We then moved over near the Lighthouse where we got into some better fishing with more medium and large sized fish showing up, and only a few jumbos. We managed to boat a 3-4 keeper Fluke around there as well as as some Mackerell. After getting a decent pick we worked our way into the SeaBass grounds to finish the day, the SeaBass seemed to be on the smaller side today as well, but everyone did seem to get a couple nice ones. Our pool winner today…
Sun July 30 – Whale Watching
Just gets better and better! On a comfortable day, with unlimited visibility, we were ready to find lots of cetaceans , and that we did. We had reports of dolphins “everywhere,” and whales where we’d seen them on our last, as well as closer to shore. Are assumption that the nearshore whales were juvenile humpbacks was correct. These juvenile humpback whales and dolphins were searching for and feeding on the abundant patches of Atlantic menhaden (AKA bunker). We watched as the whales fed via subsurface lunges. These were small humpbacks, probably no larger than 24 feet. Our first 4 humpbacks undertook no “surface” activity, but our 5th humpback was repeatedly flipper-slapping and surfacing lunging. Beautiful to watch. We’re already looking forward to Wednesday’s trip!! Join us. 300-400 Inshore bottlenose dolphins 6 humpback whales 200 Great shearwaters 10 Cory’s shearwaters…
Mon July 31 – 1/2 Day Fishing AM
Capt J.R. reports a decent action this morning on the Viking Star with SeaBass and Fluke being the predominant catch. We ended up with the buckets having mostly SeaBass and a few KEEPER Fluke around the boat. It was a very enjoyable trip. The first place pool winner went to Lorne Brousseau from Northport, NY…
Sun July 30 – 1/2 Day Fishing PM
Capt Mike reports a better afternoon of fishing today on the Viking Star. The wind died down and made for a beautiful afternoon with steady picking the entire trip. Mixed bad of big sized Porgies, SeaBass and a few keeper Fluke. Nice day on the water! The pool winner this afternoon went to Edwardo Vasquez…
