Viking Fleet Fishing Reports

Montauk

Thurs Aug 1 – Montauk Jumbo Lighthouse Porgies and Knothead Sea Bass

Captain Dave reports from the Viking Starship. We had another fine day of fishing. Just to change things up, we worked today’s trip a little differently. We traveled East to do some Sea Bass fishing to start. Anglers were bringing in a nice mix of Sea Bass and Porgies. Then we traveled back towards the Montauk Lighthouse. We had plenty of action, but the Porgies today were a bit smaller than the last few days. Looking forward to getting on those Jumbo Porgies again tomorrow. Today’s pool winner was Mike Kwok of Jersey City, NJ with a 2.25 pound Scup.

Thurs Aug 1 – 1/2 Day Fishing AM

Capt Dave G reports a good morning of fishing aboard the Viking Star. We had faster drifts than we wanted for most of the morning. Still we ended up with a nice catch of SeaBass and Porgies. The pool winner was Tom Morrison from Northport, NY with a 3.5 lb SeaBass.

Wed July 31 – 2 Day Block Island Layover – Viking Fivestar

Capt Steven Jr reports that we started off Cod fishing on day one and picked a few fish everywhere we went. No big numbers of fish on any drop, but we ended up with a couple of dozen keepers up to 15 lbs. From there we ended the day by Block Island and had some excellent SeaBass fishing, with a few guys grabbing their limit of Jumbos and a pile of Jumbo Porgies. Day two we had a great morning bite with big Striped Bass up to 48.8 lbs. From there we grabbed our second days limit of SeaBass and some big Porgies, then we went Fluking closer to home to end the trip. Fluking was slow with not even a lot of shorts. Overall a good trip that sent everyone home with a nice pile of fillets.

Wed July 31 – 1/2 Day Fishing PM

Capt Joe reports really good fishing this afternoon aboard the Viking Star. There was a ton of action with Fluke, SeaBass, Jumbo Porgies and Mackerel. Honorable mention goes to local Andrea with a 7 1/2 lb Fluke. The pool winner was Melissa Libert from Long Valley, NJ with a 6 lb Fluke.

Wed July 31 – Montauk Jumbo Porgies & Knothead SeaBass

Wed July 31 – Montauk Jumbo Porgies & Knothead SeaBass Capt Dave reports a good day on the Viking Starship. We tried things a little different today. We started out to the east SeaBassing and it was pretty good. We had a steady pick going until the tide started to run fast. We headed back to the lighthouse and it was a Bail Job! It was straight Porgy fishing with 90% Large Scup! The pool winner was Mike Benis from Brooklyn with a 3 lb Porgy.

Wed July 31 – 1/2 Day Fishing AM

Capt Mike reports a slower day on the Viking Star. The New Moon tide caused a fast drift, so it was tough. We did have some nice keeper size Fluke. The pool winner was Ali Gay from Brooklyn, NY with a 6 lb Fluke.

Tue July 30 – 1/2 Day Fishing PM

Capt Carl reports a much slower afternoon on the Viking Stariper. We did not have much luck with Fluke, but we did have more action with SeaBass and Porgies. The pool winner was Sean Kim from Ridgewood, NJ with a 5 lb SeaBass.

Tue July 30 – Montauk Jumbo Porgies & Knothead SeaBass

Capt Dave reports a good day on the Viking Starship. The tide was running hard at the lighthouse early, so we went down the beach. The fishing was okay with some little fish mixed in. When the conditions turned we went back to the lighthouse where is was good-good. We then went offshore to SeaBass where is was picky. Due to the conditions the rocks were grabbing the sinkers, but everybody managed to get their limit. The first place pool winner was Gio from NJ with a 3.11 lb Scup. The edible pool winner was Steve Johnson from Bronx, NY with a 4 lb SeaBass.

Tues July 30 – 1/2 Day Fishing AM

Captain Carl reports from the Viking Stariper a great day on the 1/2 day boat. We escaped the hot temperatures on land and found some cool air. Fishing started off a bit slow, but once the tide turned fishing became red hot. Lots of nice Sea Bass, Porgies and a few keeper Fluke to round out the catch. First place in the pool went to Frank Nuchereno of Dallas, Texas with a 5 pound Fluke.Second place went to Kim Thury of Northport, NY with a 4 pound Sea Bass.

Mon July 29 – 1/2 Day Fishing PM

Captain Mike reports from the Viking Stariper a much improved trip this afternoon. Great fishing accompanied by a great breeze and cooler temps. Not many keeper Fluke but plenty of large and Jumbo Porgies and loads of large quality Sea Bass. Bent rods tired some of our customers out before we headed back to port. Mates were kept busy cleaning fish well after we came in. Another great day on the water. Pool winner was Louis DiMeglio of Ashburn VA with a 20 inch 5 pound Fluke.
