Tue July 9 – Montauk Jumbo Lighthouse Porgies & Knothead SeaBass
Capt Dave reports a slower day on the Viking Starship compared to yesterday. We had to contend with windy conditions, so it was a bit tough. Those that stuck with it did put a nice catch together. We had some big Porgies and SeaBass along with some Mackerel. The pool winner was Elrich Jarvis from the Bronx with a 3 3/4 Scup.

Mon July 8 – Montauk Jumbo Lighthouse Porgies and Knothead Sea Bass
Captain Dave reports from the Viking Starship that today was one of the best days of the season! All the anglers on board were kept busy with plenty of quality Porgy and Sea Bass. Not many shorts today. In the Porgy pool, we had a tie today between Richie Chirichella of Bohemia and Yanick “Nikki” Noel both with 3.5 pound fish. Way to represent the female anglers on board Nikki!
Mon July 8 – 1/2 Day Fishing AM
Capt Dave G reports a great morning of fishing aboard the Viking Star. We had light winds and good drifting conditions. The fish bit all morning even through the slack tide. We ended up with a pile of keeper Fluke and large Sea Bass. The pool winner was Aiden Worth of Montauk with a 5.6 pound Fluke. Second place went to Peter Francescos with a 5.25 pound Fluke. A special birthday shout out to Richard Worth from Captain Dave and Steve. Thanks for spending your birthday with us. How many years has it been??
Sun July 7 – Whale Watching
Humpback whales, sea turtle, and sunfish! What a special day we had – our first humpbacks of the season. The day was sunny, breezy, and chilly enough in the shade to make most of us wear sweatshirts, in other words a welcomed relief from the heat and humidity. We heard reports of whales off the Nappeague stretch, as well as further offshore. The NE winds helped us decide to head westward and we found whales off Ditch Plains. We first encountered a really small humpback, perhaps a calf or yearling. It was busy with searching for food on extremely long submersions. Later a larger humpback appeared and we stayed with it long enough to get excellent fluke shots and see some typical humpback behaviors. July 8 – Commercial Fishing Report from Captain Steven Sr. on the Freetime
Captain Steven Sr just returned from a FANTASTIC two day commercial trip aboard his personal boat,The Freetime. Boy what a trip it was! He explored some new territory and was not disappointed. Steven and his crew landed some quality Tiles up to 40lbs. Also included in this fabulous haul were Blueline Tile and Mahi-Mahi. Mahi-Mahi were swimming around the boat just waiting to be brought on board. We weren’t done and went on to some Tuna territory known to Captain Steven Sr.. Fishing remained fantastic and we ended up with 15 Yellowfins,2 Big Eyes and a 140 pound Swordfish. This fish fest was all in just two days!
