Sun July 7- AM 1/2 day trip
Capt Dave G reports a good morning of fishing aboard the Viking Star. We had breezy conditions, a beautiful morning and a nice bite. We ended up with nice big sea bass and a couple nice keeper fluke. The pool winner was Michael Collins from Blue Point, NY with a 5.4 lb Fluke.
Sat July 6 – Striped Bass
Captain Phil reports from the Viking Starship. We had a slow start jigging. Tough conditions prevailed until after dark about 8:30P.M. Action started on the tide change. Anglers brought 4 cow Striped Bass up to 35 pounds on board and some Bluefish. Anglers are looking forward to the Viking Fleet’s special Full Moon Striped Bass Trip on July 16th. The Moon phase and tides also look good for our regular Striped Bass trips on Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings this week.
Sat July 6 – 1/2 Day Fishing PM
Capt Phil reports a slower afternoon on the Viking Star. We had wind against tide and it made for tough conditions. We ended up with some Fluke, SeaBass and a giant Porgy caught by Angelo Demetroulakos from Montauk. The first place pool winner was Asia Vergatos from Bellmore, NY with a 3.2 lb Fluke. The second place pool winner was Ashton Levine from Superior, Co with a 3 lb Fluke.
Sat July 6 – 1/2 Day Fishing AM
Capt Phil reports a lot action on the Viking Star this morning. We had a bunch of keeper Fluke and some shorts. Pool Winners: 1st Place Fluke – 12 year old Christian Capuno from Yonkers, NY with a 5.62 lb Fluke 2nd Place Fluke – Kevin Graham from Wantaugh, NY with a 4.1 lb Fluke
Sat July 6 – Montauk Jumbo Porgies & Knothead SeaBass
Montauk Jumbo Lighthouse Porgies & Knothead SeaBass Capt Dave reports a great day on the Viking Starship. We had good conditions drifting at the lighthouse with mostly large to jumbo Porgies and some SeaBass mixed in. We headed east later and had great SeaBass fishing with fish up to 4 lbs with everyone catching a few. There were some quality Porgies in the mix as well. We also had a couple of short Fluke. The first place pool winner was Jiafa from Brooklyn with a 4 1/2 lb Scup. The edible pool winner was Nelson Hernandez from Bayshore, NY with a 5 lb Bluefish.
Fri July 5- Whale Watching Trip
A Big Minke Day Today’s Viking Fleet/CRESLI Whale watch started off with a dramatic fog bank that sweep over our boat as we were leaving the Montauk area. The thick fog soon fell away and we progressed through calm seas and sunny blue skies for the rest of the day. After reaching a point about 12 miles from Montauk point we encountered the first of the Minke whales. They were apparently feeding on the thick schools of small fish below us. The adults and children aboard got many looks at these small baleen whales as they spent time around the boat. We continued along at a leisurely pace and stopped several times as we encountered several small groups that day, for a total of 12 whales seen. Many small seabirds, Wilson’s Storm Petrels, where dipping into the seas around us…

Fri July 5- 1/2 Day Fishing PM
Captain Joe reports from the the Viking Star that anglers continued catching good amounts of fish this afternoon. In fact the keepers were even larger than this mornings keepers. A nice variety of Fluke, Sea Bass and Porgy were all in the mix. this afternoon. Martin Wellin Dowd of Yorkville Manhatten was the pool winner this afternoon with an 8.1 pound Fluke. Honorable mention goes to local angler Uncle Bill Flagge who did not participate in the pool but brought in a 9.11 pound Fluke.
Fri July 5 – Montauk Jumbo Porgies & Knothead SeaBass
Capt Dave reports excellent fishing on the Viking Starship. We started out drifting by the lighthouse where a new body of Sea Run Porgies moved in that were very nice quality jumbos. There were also SeaBass mixed in. The tide started running fast, so we moved around and had some steady spots and others were picky. There was also some Codfish. The first place pool winner was Shu Hui Cheng from Brooklyn, NY with a 4 1/2 lb Scup. The edible pool winner was Christian from Brooklyn, NY with a 5 lb SeaBass.
Fri July 5 – 1/2 Day Fishing AM
Capt Dave G reports a good morning of fishing aboard the Viking Star. The rods were bending all morning and we caught lots of fluke sea bass and porgies. There are still a lot of shorts in the mix. We ended up with a few nice keeper fluke some beautiful sea bass and everybody caught some fish. The 1st place Fluke pool winner was Caroilyn Sura from Wechesler New Jersey. The second place Fluke Pool winner was Caelin Smith from New York, New York.
