April 17th-38 Hour Tile/Hake/Wreck Express Capt Steven Sr. reports an excellent start to our 2015 Offshore Fishing Season! After losing a bunch of trips because of weather, we were very excited to get out there! We were welcomed with perfect conditions, and hungry fish from the deep waters! All day long we caught a good, steady pick of Golden Tilefish, mostly in the medium to large range class, and also had a mix of Pollack, Cod, Hake, Barrelfish, a few Blue Line Tilefish, Cusk, and even a few Rosies! We did have some dogfish in the mix also, but they weren’t too bad. Local Cod Capt Dave reports that it was not a good day on the Viking Starship, but we tried. We hit 1 wreck and 3 hard bottom spots, only catching 1 keeper and 3 throwback on the wreck. Jerry Damoulianos of Queens, NY was the pool winner with a 24″ Cod. Check back with us to see when we will be sailing next for Local Cod. ENUF was ENUF – was had by a bunch of Montauk Boys! Capt Steven and Capt Kenny put a trip together on the Viking Fivestar and it took about 20 mintutes to sell out by word of mouth, and off we went. By flying down on Feb 23rd and returning on Feb 27th this gave us a couple days of nice weather. We landed in Orlando and in 45 minutes we were at the boat in shorts and t-shirts. After getting organized, we left at 3pm and steamed 3 hours. Fishing was on! We fished for mango snapper, be liners, pink porgies, jack’s, triggers. All kinds of stuff! We had red snapper and grouper everywhere we went. Unfortunately they are closed on the East Coast this time of year. For some ridiculous reason it was hard to stay away from…
