Saturday Dec 6
30-40 Mile Wreck Trip Capt Carl reports another fantastic day of wreck fishing on the Viking star. The weather was beautiful all day, especially for December, and the wrecks we hit were full of life! Giant, Jumbo, Knothead, Mahuska, Molly Whopper Seabass bit the hooks with fury, and double headers were normal. Most people had a limit in the first 20 minutes. We only had a few cod for the day. Pollack, white hake, ling, giant bergals, scup, and whiting rounded out the catch as well. It was truly a great day to be out on the water. Kurt Wuesterfeld took the seabass pool with a 6.79 pounder! Friday Dec 5
Block Island Mixed Bag Report Capt Ant reports a decent day at Block with basically every winter species caught. Sea Bass remained solid with majority getting their limit despite a brutal east wind. We had a good amount of nice green cod, fat beautiful red hake, some Porgys and jumbo cunners. We had one pool today for largest edible and that went to B.Y. Chen of Brooklyn with a 12.6lb cod.
Thursday Dec 4
Block Island Porgies and Sea Bass Captain Carl reports a bit of a slower day today aboard the Viking Star. We had mostly sea bass today with most people catching their limit, about 30-35 keeper cod and a handful of porgies. Today’s pool winner was Fang Yung Xing of NY, NY with a nice 5.2lb sea bass.
Tuesday December 2
Block Island Porgies and Sea Bass Captain Dave reports despite the rough weather it was a good day of fishing. There were plenty of sea bass, but no porgies. There were about 20 keeper cod on the boat and an 8lb black fish.
Monday Dec 1
Block Island Porgies and Sea Bass Captain Dave reports a slower day today of fishing in Block Island. We had about 20 keeper cod and some sea bass- most people had their limit of sea bass today. The pool winner today was Bruce Roberts of Far Rockaway, NY with a 7.5lb cod.
Sunday Nov 30
Block Island Porgies and Sea Bass Captain Dave reports a slow day of fishing today. We had mostly sea bass with just a few porgies and a handful of cod in the mix today. We will be sailing tomorrow Monday Dec 1st at 5am. The office will be open at 4am for ticket sales.
Sat Nov 29
Block Island Porgies and Sea Bass Captain Dave reports a bit of a slower day today on the fishing grounds. We still managed a nice catch with mostly sea bass- which most people had their limit- about a dozen cod up to 14lbs, a few porgies and a couple bluefish in the mix. Today’s porgy pool winner was Chan Woon Vica and in second place with the edible pool was Brandon Welch with an 11lb cod.
Friday Nov 28
30+ Saltwater Turkey Wreck Trip Capt Carl reports an excellent day on the Viking Star today! The weather was a bit ugly but fishing was red hot! Giant Jumbo Muhuska Knothead Seabass chewed like crazy with lots of double headers and we caught a quick and easy full boat limit of them. We also had about 30 or 35 keeper Cod to 25 lbs, and plenty of other delicious bycatch including ling, white hake, cunners, and cocktail blues. It was just savage. The crew spent hours and hours cleaning fish on the ride home and at the dock. We didn’t get many pictures, but here are a few. Schedule Update: Happy Thanksgiving! We will be closed tomorrow Thursday Nov 26th for the holiday and will reopen on Friday Nov 27th. ON FRIDAY NOV 27th: We will be sailing for the 30+ Saltwater Turkey Wreck trip- the office will open at 2am for check in and ticket sales. We will also be sailing for the Block Island Porgies and Sea Bass trip- the office will open at 4am for check in and ticket sales.
