Christmas Cod and Sea Bass Capt. Steven Jr reports an overall very good day on the cod grounds although much different than Fridays trip. Today the cod bite was slow for most of the day. The dogs had moved in from yesterdays blow and the big cod we saw Friday must have had lockjaw…until about 130p when someone flicked a switch and the ferocious feed began. We picked all morning, many more shorts than keepers but thankfully there were plenty of Ling and a good handful of Sea Bass, jumbo Cunners and even some Jumbo Scup to keep anglers interested. About a half hour before we were due to call it a day Jr. made a move that paid off big time. Our first drift was flat out insane!! Gaffs being called for everywhere as 8-15lb cod were floating belly…

Friday December 27
Christmas Cod and Sea Bass Capt Steven Jr reports a great day on the water with cod coming up on every drop. We hit the local grounds and did some exploring but the exploration part turned into a steady catch of cod all day long. We started on the drift as weather permitted and had some great shots including quite a few double headers with 10 plus pound fish. The wind came on so we anchored up the rest of the day on every spot and the green cod kept coming. It wasn’t a bail job, but steady fishing as it seemed waves of fish were circling the Starship. High hook had 14 cod a couple of ling and a pollack. Our good friends Steve and Paul filled a cooler with a winters bounty including pollack and ling with a…

2013 Montauk Mixed Bag Wreck Trip Capt great reports a decent day aboard the Viking Starship. The warm temperatures brought out a good load of anglers happy to get out fishing! Our first drop started off lock and load with giant sea bass and lots of double headers all around the boat! Unfortunately, this only lasted about 10 minutes and turned into a slow pick of sea bass, with a few cod, a bunch of ling, a couple white hake, some bergals, and some other wreck dwellers. There was also a few dogs, but not that bad. The rest of the day saw the same trend, with each stop starting off very good, but for a short period… Then just a slow pick. One angler even caught a 9 lb fluke (released unharmed after a quick picture)! All in all…
