Block Island Porgies and Sea Bass Captain Dave reports a bit of a slow day today. The dogs were around today, but we still had a decent catch of porgies. We also had a few sea bass and about a dozen keeper cod. Today’s first place pool winner was Alphonso Akin of Amityville with a 3lb porgy and in second was Phil Mcrackin of West Islip with a 10lb cod.
Monday October 21
Block Island Porgies and Sea Bass Captain Dave reports a bit of a slower day today than we have had this past week. The dogs were around today and were a little bit of a bother, but we did manage to get some porgies, sea bass and cod. Today’s first place winner was Donald Moy of Manhattan with a 3.5lb porgy and in second place was Jim Brown of Amityville with a 15lb cod.
Sunday October 20
Block Island Jumbo Porgies and Sea Bass Captain Dave reports a good day despite the weather conditions we mostly had porgies sea bass and some cod in the mix up to 15lbs Half Day Jigging Bass and Blues AM Captain Ant reports a Awesome jig trip, I guess after fasting at night the chew was on again, same spot, same marks,they just bit. Nice bass blues and 4lb scup. The first hour was a complete bail job, picking a bass or 2 a drift, but every rod bending young Chris Maggiore from Cold Spring Harbor, NY took the pool with a 19lb striper. Angelo also caught a bass and his beloved porgys!
Saturday October 19
Night Striped Bass On the eel front, We had 2 full boats, many Optimistic fisherman when we left and many depressed fisherman upon return. It sucked plain and simple. We marked them exactly where we caught them on Friday night and Sat jigging Lock Jaw!. The wind changed direction 4x, it seemed fronts were pushing through, or they were just well fed from a day of chowing. Viking StarShip Pool winner Mr James Ruben from Patchogue took the pool with a 24lber Second place Ken Boyle from West Babylon with a 21lber. Friday October 18
Capt Ant Apologizes for the delayed report but here we go on the bass front: Fridays Pm Jig Trip was Excellent. We had a pick of bass and big blues off the radar to start when that died we moved around to the light and had 3 killer drifts with bass, scup and blues. John Minton took the pool with a 19lber Matt Stanton took 2nd with a 16lber. Night Striped Bass Captain Ant reports an absolute slammer trip last night. It was absolutely the best night trip of the year when it comes to catching fish. Thursday October 17
Night Striped Bass Capt Ant reports a bluefish Bonanza on the bass boat and they were BIG. We had most of the flood and could not get through the blues. We picked a few bass at the rip but it died with the tide once we got ebb we found a pile and weeded through more blues and put some bass on the boat. Block Island Porgies and Sea Bass Captain Dave reports a bit of a slower day today due to the east winds. It started out with some smaller sized fish than what we have been getting, so we moved to find the bigger ones. And we found them, but it was quality over quantity today. What we managed to get was a nicer sized. We only had a few sea bass today and also about a dozen keeper cod up to 15lbs. Today’s first place pool winner was Randy from Jersey City with a 4lb porgy and in second was Benjamin Barajas of Queens with a 15lb cod.
Tuesday October 15
Block Island Porgies and Sea Bass Captain Dave reports an okay day of fishing today aboard the Viking Starship. We had a good pick of mixed sized porgies, as well as a couple stripers in the mix. We went looking for the sea bass in the afternoon and we found mostly medium sizes but we did have a few nice ones. Today’s first place pool winner was Bill Wong of Manhattan with a 3lb porgy and in second place was Donald Moy with a 9lb striped bass.
Monday October 14
Viking FiveStar Block Island Cod, Sea Bass and Blackfish We had another good day bottom fishing off of block today. We started off inshore looking around for some blackfish but there was still a left over ground swell from the last few day of wind and made things quiet. We dint find much if anything to bite until we got outside of 100 feet of water. When we did things turned around . We again had phenomenal sea bass fishing with mostly quality sized fish sending everyone home with their limit. We also picked up a few cod every drop with the biggest one in the high teens and high hook being 4 keeper cod. There was also plenty of XL porgies to go around and top off the coolers. Sunday October 13
Night Striped Bass Capt Ant reports a difficult night of fishing. The wind never stopped and made it tough to stand never mind fish. It wasn’t until the tide eased that we started picking a few. Nothing large but nice eaters. Pool winner Yuriy Steko 17lber from Toronto Canada who also had 3 keepers in total.Second place was Sal Rash 16lbs from Farmingdale, NY Block Island Porgies and Sea Bass Captain Steven Jr reports a slow day today due to the conditions. It was a slow pick in the morning of mostly medium sized fish, and picked up in the afternoon but still medium size.
