Viking Fleet Fishing Reports

Montauk

Sat July 20 – Montauk Lighthouse Jumbo Porgies & Knothead Sea Bass

Capt Dave reports a very good day of fishing today on the Viking Starship! We decided to start our morning off our morning out of the tide, fishing to the east and had some decent action, but mostly small SeaBass with a few keepers in the mix, as well as some smaller Porgies. After the tide switched we worked our way back towards the lighthouse and anchored up for the rest of our trip where most our anglers found their limit on Porgies. we had a lot of large Porgies today with some jumbos mixed in, but pretty much all the fish around here were on the large side.  The first prize pool winner went to Mickel Modoo from Brooklyn, NY with a 2.6 lb Porgy. The edible pool winner went to Guillmo Atterson from NJ with a 4 lb…

Sat July 20 – 1/2 Day Fishing AM

Capt Mike reports lots of rods bending all morning on the Viking Star. We started the day off with a very nice keeper fluke in the first minute! As the trip carried on we had excellent Porgy and SeaBass action. Overall, it was a great morning with a lot of fish and a lot of…

Fri July 19 – Whale Watching

What an amazing experience for the passengers aboard the Viking Star yesterday! We headed off to find the many whales encountered on Wednesday’s trip, but were happily interrupted by three separate pods of Tamanend’s bottlenose dolphins while en route. Blows from humpback whales were spotted ahead as a minke whale and large pod of short-beaked…

Fri July 19 – 1/2 Day Fishing PM

Capt Mike reports another trip filled with good action this afternoon on the Viking Starlite. The Porgy and SeBass bite continued from this morning into the entire afternoon trip.  We did catch some nice keeper Fluke this afternoon as well, which was definitely an improvement from this morning. The pool winner this afternoon went to…

Fri July 19 – Montauk Lighthouse Jumbo Porgies & Knothead Sea Bass

Capt Dave reports a very good day of fishing today on the Viking Starship. This morning’s conditions weren’t great with the heavy flood tide so we started offshore to the east targeting some SeaBass and had a lot of action! We saw a lot of small fish today compared to what we’ve been seeing, but boy were they biting. We had double-triple headers coming over the rails, but only had a few keeper SeaBass in here as well as a good shot of Mackerell. As the tide changed we came back into the local spots and anchored up off the lighthouse and pretty much fished the rest of the day here. Fishing was excellent with a lot of large and jumbo sized Porgies and some SeaBass, but for the most part we had a solid and steady pick of large…

Fri July 19 – 1/2 Day Fishing AM

Capt Mike reports pretty steady action all morning long on the Viking Starlite. We had some really nice jumbo Porgies and some quality SeaBass in the buckets! Overall an enjoyable day on the water with the warm weather and pile of fish to go with it! The pool winner this morning went to Karen Jepson…

Wed July 17 – Whale Watching

It keeps getting better and better – another 4 species day with dozens of whales! Once again, we headed out to sea and escaped the heat.  The visibility was excellent in terms of distance, but hazy.  It didn’t matter. Cap’t. Steven D. Forsberg radioed to tell us of “thousands of whales” offshore. It wasn’t thousands,…

Thurs July 18 – 1/2 Day Fishing PM

Capt. JR reports another enjoyable afternoon of angling onboard the Viking Star. We spent the trip drifting some local rock piles and found SeaBass, Porgies, and Fluke all afternoon. Some very nice KEEPER Fluke were scooped up in our nets to top off the buckets. All around a very nice trip. The first prize pool…

Thurs July 18 – Montauk Lighthouse Jumbo Porgies & Knothead Sea Bass

Capt Dave reports a productive day of fishing on the Viking Starship. This morning started out difficult with a strong tide in combination with a large ground swell, we tried working one of our usual spots, but the bite seemed to be thrown off, with a lot of little fish coming up. We decided to…

Wed July 17 – 1/2 Day Fishing PM

Capt Carl reports plenty of action on the afternoon half day trip! We had all the usual suspects of Fluke, Sea Bass, and Porgies. The keeper sized Flukes eluded us this afternoon, but everyone had some nice filets of Black Sea Bass and Porgies to take home! Pool winner was Ron Ocean from East Hampton,…
