Sat Aug 14- Whale Watching

An awesome 3 species of cetaceans day Another great day to be out on the water.  10+ miles of visibility, calm seas, a cool breeze and plenty of sunshine.  Less than half an hour after passing the lighthouse, we came upon a pair of humpback whales giving us plenty of views with short dive times due to large about of menhaden (bunker) at the surface.  One even showed off giving us a few peduncle throws. As the Viking Starship continued heading west we found 3 minke whales with one of them giving us a couple of nice views to make comparisons of size and behavioral patterns with the humpback whales we had just seen.  Next we saw a large mola mola (ocean sunfish) just resting at the surface.  As we headed further south we found another humpback whale and…

Sun Aug 15 – Montauk Lighthouse Jumbo Porgies & Knothead SeaBass

Capt Dave reports difficult conditions over by the lighthouse with a few good choice Large and Jumbo Porgies. Then, we went SeaBassing on a long fast drift, everyone caught their limit for today. Our 1st place pool winner went to Victor De Jesus from Plainview, NY with a 2.2lb Porgy. Our 2nd place pool winner was Carlos Cohtras from Long Island with a 4.3lb SeaBass.

Capt JR reports that the morning’s trip was filled with a lot of action! We experienced SeaBass and Porgies bending rods everywhere we went; the fishing was very consistent. Sat Aug 14- Montauk Lighthouse Jumbo Porgies and Seabass

Capt. Dave reports a slow pick on the Porgies this morning but amazing Seabassing. We started off going for Porgies and caught medium to large size catch. After the first drift the tide started to change and we decided to go for some Seabass. The pool winner was Mr. Fish from Roosevelt Island, with a 2.6 lb Porgy. The second pool winner was Francisco Cabado from NY,NY, with a 6 lb Fluke.

Sat Aug 14- 1/2 Day Fishing AM

Capt. JR reports a great trip this morning on the Viking Star. We started out drifting some deep rock piles for some big porgies and sea bass. As the tide eased off we moved to some shallower areas and found more of the same with the addition of some KEEPER fluke as well. The pool winner was Nicholas Soto from Hampton Bays, NY, with a 5.6 lb Seabass.

Fri Aug 13 – 1/2 Day Fishing PM

Captain JR reports we had a very good trip on the Viking Star this morning. Lots of action all trip. Very nice fillet bags for all. Today’s pool winner went to Angelo Demetroulakos from Brooklyn, NY with a 4lb Fluke.
