Sat Aug 10 – Montauk Jumbo Porgies & Knothead SeaBass
Capt Dave reports a good day on the Viking Starship. We started out with good conditions at the lighthouse and their was a lot of action with Porgies, but the wind came up and made it difficult so we went down the beach. It was good, but the fish were smaller. We then headed further down to find the SeaBass, but we found more Porgies than anything else. The SeaBass were a bit off today, but we did have action with some really nice size Trigger Fish and some Mackerel. The first place pool winner was Franz Pierre from Brooklyn, NY with a 2.95 lb Scup. The edible pool winner was Cosme Casanueva from Maywood, NJ with a 4.25 lb Trigger Fish.

Breaching Humpbacks, Minkes, and a few Great shearwaters and a mature Northern gannet! Another beautiful day on the water with whales, what more can you want? Captain Dave reports another fine day of fishing on the Viking Starship. Lots of action all day long. Drifts near the Montauk Lighthouse today culled loads of Porgies, but the Porgies were a little smaller than we’ve seen recently. Mostly mediums to large with only a few Jumbos. We sailed to the East again to load up on Sea Bass. We had to pick through a lot of shorts but everyone wound up with some quality Sea Bass keepers to take home. No keeper Fluke today or any exotics.
