Captain Carl reports a FINE morning of 1/2 Day fishing aboard the Viking Star! Despite the easterly ground swell and light NE wind, the fish were snapping! Fri Sept 6 – Montauk Lighthouse Jumbo Porgies & Knothead Sea Bass
Capt Dave reports a much improved day of fishing today on the Viking Starship. We started off this morning just south of the lighthouse and had a good bite, but the rougher conditions made for difficult fishing. We had lots of actions with medium sized Porgies, but ended up making our move halfway to Block Island and got into some calmer water and got into some really good fishing. We anchored up here for a couple hours and the bite here was great with some larger sized Porgies and we even boated a 6 lb Fluke. After getting a nice pick of Porgies we worked farther offshore to target some SeaBass and once again had to pick our way through a lot of little stuff to get some keepers. We also saw some little Blue fish around here. The pool…

Thurs Sept 5 – Montauk Lighthouse Jumbo Porgies & Knothead Sea Bass
Capt Dave reports a pretty good day of fishing today on the Viking Starship. This mornings bite started off ok, with some decent mixed action of Porgies and SeaBass, most the fish were on the medium side. As the bite dropped off we made a move midway between the point and Block and had pretty much the same go, with mixed Porgies and SeaBass, nothing very big, but some decent fish. We worked this area for a bit till the tide came in and we made our move closer to Block Island. Here we kind of had mixed bag pick between keeper Fluke, Blue fish, Mackerell, Sea Bass, and Porgies. Action was ok, getting everyone pretty much what they needed to get close to their limit. The pool winner today went to Levi Hayes from Brooklyn, NY with a 2.6…
Wed Sept 4 – Montauk Lighthouse Jumbo Porgies & Knothead Sea Bass
Capt Dave reports an excellent day on the Viking Starship. We started out anchored east of the lighthouse fishing the rock piles. Fishing for Porgies was as good as it gets with double and triple headers! Once the tide started running fishing slowed down on the anchor, so we put in a couple drifts but it wasn’t great. We headed offshore for Sea Bass and anchored up. There were tons of little ones, but everyone managed a few nice ones. There were also some Porgies in the mix there. There were also a couple of Fluke by the lighthouse. The pool winner was Damian Palmer from Amityville, NY with a 2 1/2 lb Porgy.
Tue Sept 3 – Montauk Lighthouse Jumbo Porgies & Knothead Sea Bass
Capt Dave reports a good trip on the Viking Starship. We started out the trip way to the west. Fishing was really good to start with big Porgies & Sea Bass. It slowed down eventually, so we went a bit east. There were mixed size Porgies there. We tried offshore in the deeper water and had a mix of Sea Bass and Porgies. We had mostly nice stuff. It was our best drop with quality fish with some 4 to 4 1/2 lb Sea Bass. There were also some Fluke and Bluefish. The pool winner was Justin Cruz from Plesantville, NJ with a 3 lb Porgy. We are definitely sailing tomorrow at 5AM!
